World Champion U.S. Women’s National Team Begins Victory Tour Sunday on FOX Sports 1
FOX Sports’ record-breaking Summer of Soccer continues as the U.S. Women’s National Team plays its first match since winning the FIFA Women’s World Cup, taking on Costa Rica this Sunday, Aug. 16 at Heinz Field in Pittsburgh. All 23 players from the World Cup-winning team make the trip, including midfielder Carli Lloyd, forward Abby Wambach and defender Meghan Klingenberg, who is a Pittsburgh-area native. The game kicks off a 10-match post-Women’s World Cup victory tour to celebrate the USA’s third title. Costa Rica was eliminated in the group stage of the World Cup this summer after finishing third in Group E. It was the team’s first Women’s World Cup appearance.
Coverage begins on FOX Sports 1 with a 30-minute pregame show at 1:30 PM ET, hosted by Jenny Taft who is joined by former USWNT stars Leslie Osborne and Aly Wagner and U.S. Soccer Hall of Famer Alexi Lalas. After calling the Women’s World Cup Final, JP Dellacamera, Tony DiCicco and Cat Whitehill reunite in the booth for Sunday’s match, while Julie Stewart-Binks provides reports from the sideline.
