FOX Sports Carries FIFA MEN’S U-17 WORLD CUP for First Time Ever
The FIFA MEN’S U-17 WORLD CUP 2015 kicks off on Saturday, Oct. 17 in Chile, and FOX Sports carries the event in the U.S. for the first time ever. The tournament features 24 national teams representing every confederation, and FS2 and FOX Soccer Plus offer all 52 matches exclusively, including the group stages, knockout rounds and the final. More than half the matches air on FS2, including each one from the quarterfinal through the final, which is being played on Sunday, Nov. 8. All matches on FS2 are available for streaming via the FOX Sports GO app and online at FOXSportsGO.com. All 52 matches listed below are also available live and on-demand on FOX Soccer 2Go.
The FIFA MEN’S U-17 WORLD CUP 2015 is played in eight cities across Chile, and nations are placed into six groups of four teams each. USA was drawn into Group A alongside Chile, Croatia and Nigeria. The other groups are: England, Guinea, Brazil and Korea Republic (Group B); Australia, Germany, Mexico and Argentina (Group C; Belgium, Mali, Honduras, Ecuador (Group D); South Africa, Costa Rica, Korea DPR and Russia (Group E); and New Zealand, France, Syria and Paraguay (Group F).
The U.S Men’s U-17 National Team begins its journey on Saturday facing defending champion Nigeria, the most successful nation in the tournament’s history with four titles. The match airs live on FS2 (3:55 PM ET). FS2 airs all three Team USA group stage games, with clashes against Croatia on Tuesday, Oct. 20 (5:00 PM ET) and Chile on Friday, Oct. 23 (6:55 PM ET). FOX Sports’ Keith Costigan calls the first two U-17 MNT games alongside former USMNT star goalkeeper Tony Meola. Ross Dyer provides play-by-play for the final group stage matchup against host Chile, with analyst Meola. Other announcers contributing throughout the tournament include Francisco X. Rivera and Dave Denholm.
The top two teams in each group, as well as the best four third-place teams, advance to the Round of 16, beginning Wednesday, October 28. In its last U-17 World Cup appearance in 2011, the USA finished its group in second place before falling to Germany in the Round of 16.
