European Giants Fight to Advance to Quarterfinals as UEFA Champions League Action Returns to FOX Sports
The second and final leg of the UEFA Champions League Round of 16 returns to FOX Sports and FOX Deportes this week, beginning Tuesday, March 8, with European giants Barcelona, Chelsea and Real Madrid all vying for a coveted spot in the quarterfinal stage. FOX Sports also features UEFA Europa League action, including a mouthwatering clash in the Round of 16 as English Premier League rivals Manchester United and Liverpool face off on Thursday, March 10.
The star-studded week begins Tuesday at 2:00 PM ET on FS1, as perennial powers Real Madrid take on Roma, following a 2-0 first leg win and on FOX Deportes, Wolfsburg takes on Gent. Wednesday’s slate includes a highly-anticipated second leg encounter between Chelsea and Paris St. Germain at 2:00 PM ET on FS1 and FOX Deportes. After PSG won the first leg 2-1, Guus Hiddink’s team looks to cut the deficit back at home. In FA Cup play, Premier League powerhouse Arsenal is in action Tuesday as well, as the Gunners battle Hull City again in the lone fifth round replay match on FS2 (1:50 PM ET).
The UEFA Champions League Round of 16 concludes on Tuesday, March 15, with Manchester City – Dynamo Kyiv (3:00 PM ET/FS1 & FOX Deportes) and Atletico Madrid – PSV Eindoven (3:00 PM ET/FS2) taking the field simultaneously. Arsenal returns to UEFA Champions League play in the highly-anticipated second leg rematch against Barcelona at Camp Nou on Wednesday, March 16 (3:00 PM ET/FS1 & FOX Deportes), while German champions Bayern Munich tackle last year’s tournament finalists Juventus (3:00 PM ET/FS2).
The week’s nonstop soccer action continues Thursday, March 10 with the UEFA Europa League Round of 16 first leg matches, highlighted by England’s most successful clubs, Manchester United and Liverpool, pitted against each other for the first time in this tournament (3:00 PM ET/FS2). These two teams face off in a second leg match one week later on Thursday, March 17 (4:05 PM ET/FS1). UEFA Europa League action also features Tottenham – Borussia Dortmund battling it out on both match days. MULTIMATCH 90 resumes Thursday, March 17 on FOX Soccer Plus/FOX Soccer 2Go, which brings viewers every goal and highlight in near real-time from the simultaneous play.
FOX Sports’ UEFA Champions League coverage begins each day with a 30-minute pregame show. Ian Joy hosts pregame, halftime and postgame coverage alongside a rotation of analysts including Eric Wynalda, Warren Barton, Brad Friedel and Alexi Lalas. Ian Joy also hosts UEFA Europa League studio coverage alongside Barton and Wynalda. On the Spanish-language side, Claudio “El Emperador” Suarez joins Ariel Torrone to call the Wolfsburg-Gent action.
