FOX Sports Embarks on 21st Season as Major League Baseball’s Leading TV Home
FOX Sports, home to weekly marquee games, plus jewel events like the All-Star Game and postseason, including the World Series, officially embarks on its 21st season as the leading television home for Major League Baseball with the announcement of the combined 2016 FOX and FS1 regular-season schedule today.
The national broadcast schedule includes a minimum of 71 game telecasts between FOX and FS1, highlighted by at least 68 appearances by teams that participated in the 2015 postseason. The national slate combined with an approximate 2,260 games airing via the FOX Sports Regional Networks – in their exclusive partnerships with 15 teams: the Angels, Braves, Brewers, Cardinals, Diamondbacks, Indians, Marlins, Padres, Rangers, Rays, Reds, Royals, Tigers, Twins and Yankees – once again positions FOX Sports as the leading television home of Major League Baseball both locally and nationally.
FS1, heading into its third season as an MLB television destination, boasts a 39-game schedule this season, beginning with a special weeknight debut, Thursday, April 7 at 10:00 PM ET, when the defending American League West division champion Texas Rangers travel to face the division-rival Los Angeles Angels of Anaheim. The start of FS1’s regular-season weekend telecasts begins Saturday, April 9 with another divisional showdown as the defending National League West champion Los Angeles Dodgers visit the San Francisco Giants at 4:00 PM ET, and continues 25 of the ensuing 26 Saturdays throughout the spring and summer.
The FOX broadcast network airs as many as 32 games over 12 windows during the regular season, beginning with regionalized coverage of three games in primetime at 7:00 PM ET on Saturday, May 21. That date marks the first of eight straight primetime windows leading up to the 87th All-Star Game at the Petco Park in San Diego on Tuesday, July 12 (7:30 PM ET), live on FOX. Games, times and network(s) for the final two Saturdays of the regular season are to be determined.
As previously noted, FOX Sports’ 2016 schedule is highlighted by competitive matchups that feature Major League Baseball’s brightest stars and each of the 10 playoff teams from a season ago. The defending World Champion Kansas City Royals make their first FOX Sports appearance of 2016 on Thursday, April 21, when they play the Detroit Tigers in an intra-divisional clash at 7:00 PM ET on FS1.
Also the predominant home to MLB’s postseason events, FOX Sports provides coverage of the National League Division and Championship Series on both FOX and FS1. Come late October, the postseason reaches its crescendo when the American and National League pennant winners square off in the 112th World Series, the 17th straight Fall Classic on FOX.
Additionally, all regular season games airing on FOX Sports and FS1, along with the All-Star Game, Division Series, League Championship Series and World Series, are streamed live on FOX Sports GO for all subscribers of participating video providers.
For Spanish language audiences, FOX Deportes carries 30 national broadcasts during the 2016 regular season, in addition to coverage of the National League Division and Championship Series and the World Series.
Eric Shanks and John Entz are FOX Sports’ Executive Producers. Bardia Shah-Rais serves as coordinating pregame producer. Pete Macheska is coordinating producer of FOX Sports’ MLB coverage. Bill Webb is lead director.
