FOX Brings Live MLS Matches Alongside NFL Coverage For First Time Ever
NEW YORK (August 25, 2016) – Major League Soccer and FOX Sports today announced that the FOX broadcast network will feature two MLS matches airing live adjacent to regional National Football League broadcasts as part of a joint MLS and NFL lineup on Sunday, September 18. The lineup of simultaneous MLS and NFL games marks the first time in the League’s 21 seasons that a network partner has televised games from the two leagues on the same network at the same time. Kickoff times for the two matches have been updated to align with the FOX broadcast network lineup.
Winners of a record five MLS Cups, the LA Galaxy travel to Sporting Kansas City for a key Western Conference matchup that will be televised live at 2 pm ET on FOX in both competing teams’ home markets as well as select additional cities around the country. Those areas without the FOX television broadcast of the MLS match will receive a regional NFL broadcast at that time. Soccer fans in markets with the NFL game on FOX will have the opportunity to watch full coverage of the Sporting vs. Galaxy match live on FOX Sports Go.
The hottest team in Major League Soccer with a seven-match unbeaten streak, Eastern Conference leaders Toronto FC will host the New York Red Bulls live on FOX at 5 pm ET in the New York area as well as in select cities across the United States. Those areas not receiving the Toronto vs. New York broadcast on television will receive a regional NFL broadcast at that time and will have the opportunity to watch full coverage of the MLS match on FOX Sports GO. This match also will air nationally on FOX Deportes and in Canada on TSN2.
Similar to FOX’s process with regional NFL broadcasts, market assignments for the network’s coverage of the September 18 MLS matches will be made public at a later date. When market assignments are announced, MLSsoccer.com will provide a complete overview of the coverage for both the Sporting Kansas City vs. LA Galaxy and Toronto FC vs. New York Red Bulls matches.
