FS1 Airs Its First-Ever U.S. Men’s National Team World Cup Qualifier
FS1, for the first time ever, televises a U.S. Men’s National Team World Cup qualifier on Tuesday, Sept. 6. The doubleheader kicks off live from Jacksonville, Fla., at 7:30 PM ET when the United States faces Group C leader Trinidad & Tobago, a must-see game as the Americans look to secure their spot in the final round and compete for first place in the group. Immediately following, Mexico City takes center stage as the Mexican capital plays host to Mexico vs. Honduras.
Rob Stone hosts the pregame show live from EverBank Field with former U.S. Men’s National Team member Alexi Lalas and Emmy Award-winning broadcaster Fernando Fiore. John Strong calls the USA-Trinidad & Tobago match alongside former U.S. Men’s National Team midfielder Stu Holden with Jenny Taft reporting from the sideline. This match marks the first time either Strong or Holden has called a World Cup qualifier match. Sports Illustrated’s Grant Wahl serves as reporter at-large, and Dr. Joe Machnik weighs in as a rules analyst.
Tuesday’s match is the last in the semifinal round. The United States currently sits in second place in its group with seven points. If the Americans finish in first place, they enter the final round as C1 and host Mexico on Friday, Nov. 11, followed by an away game four days later. If the USMNT finishes in second place, they become C2, playing back-to-back home games for Matchdays 3-4 and back-to-back away games for Matchdays 5-6 and 8-9.
World Cup qualifying action continues Tuesday night when Mexico hosts Honduras at legendary Estadio Azteca. Coverage begins at 10:00 PM ET with JP Dellacamera and Cobi Jones on the call. Mexico leads Group A, while Honduras sits in second place with four points.
FOX Sports GO, the critically-acclaimed app that provides live-streaming video of FOX Sports programming, offers full presentations of both matches.
