FOX Sports’ College Basketball Schedule Features Top Tournaments, Defending National Champion & More
New York – FOX Sports is home to some of the best college basketball in the country once again this season, featuring the BIG EAST, Pac-12 and Big 12 conferences, as well as several early season tournaments. Highlighting the 2016-17 slate are the Gavitt Tipoff Games, the conference challenge between the BIG EAST and Big Ten conferences, plus the Pearl Harbor Invitational, part of the 75th Pearl Harbor Commemoration. Also this season, FOX Sports is home to the reigning NCAA men’s basketball champion Villanova Wildcats and airs the BIG EAST men’s championship game on the FOX broadcast network for the second consecutive year.
FOX Sports’ 2016-17 college hoops action tips off Friday, Nov. 11, as defending NCAA Champion Villanova, led by Josh Hart, Jalen Brunson and national championship game hero Kris Jenkins, faces Lafayette at 6:30 PM ET on FS2. Coverage continues through opening weekend and into the following week, featuring the second annual Gavitt Tipoff Games, the conference challenge between the BIG EAST and Big Ten conferences named in honor of BIG EAST Founder Dave Gavitt. This season, all eight games are on FS1 and BTN, including Maryland at Georgetown (6:30 PM ET) and Wisconsin at Creighton (8:30 PM ET) on Tuesday, Nov. 15, on FS1.
FOX Sports returns to Pearl Harbor for the 75th commemoration of “a date which will live in infamy” and the second Pearl Harbor Invitational. As it was in 2015, the tournament is once again held at storied Bloch Arena, which withstood the attack by Imperial Japan nearly 75 years ago and serves as a continuous legacy to those in uniform stationed in Hawai’i. The 2016 Pearl Harbor Invitational tips off Tuesday, Dec. 6, with Princeton vs. Cal (7:00 PM ET), followed by Seton Hall vs. Hawai’i (9:30 PM ET), continuing with a doubleheader featuring the same four teams the following night.
The 2016-17 FOX Sports college basketball schedule also features several other regular-season tournaments, including the Las Vegas Invitational, Las Vegas Classic and Orange Bowl Basketball Classic.
BIG EAST conference play begins Wednesday, Dec. 28, and kicks in to high gear with the annual BIG EAST Marathon, this season on Martin Luther King, Jr. Day, Monday, Jan. 16. All 10 conference teams are in action over the course of five back-to-back games beginning at 12:00 PM ET on FS1, including a rematch of last season’s BIG EAST title game, Seton Hall at Villanova, at 6:30 PM ET.
FOX Sports presents 22 regular-season games from the Pac-12 conference, including two on the broadcast network, highlighted by Washington at Arizona on Sunday, Jan. 29.
The BIG EAST men’s basketball regular season comes to a close on Wildcard Weekend, Saturday, March 4. All 10 conference teams are in action on the FOX Sports family of networks, including a doubleheader on the FOX broadcast network. Additional games are televised on FS2 and the FOX Sports Regional Networks as each team looks to get a final win before the BIG EAST Tournament bracket is released that night and play begins the following week at New York City’s Madison Square Garden.
The BIG EAST Men’s Basketball Tournament tips off Wednesday, March 8, with both first-round games on FS1. FS1 televises all four quarterfinals on Thursday, March 9, and both semifinals on Friday, March 10. For the second consecutive year, the BIG EAST Championship Game airs on the FOX broadcast network at 5:30 PM ET.
FOX Sports presents coverage of the Big 12 women’s tournaments beginning with the first round on Friday, March 3, on FOX College Sports. FOX Sports Regional Networks carry the Big 12 quarterfinals on Saturday, March 4, while FS1 presents the tournament’s semifinals and final on Sunday and Monday, March 4 and 5, respectively. FOX Sports also carries BIG EAST women’s regular-season and tournament games. That schedule will be released at a later date.
This season, 15 games are scheduled to air on the FOX broadcast network, including the BIG EAST Championship Game and a pair of huge non-conference matchups. On Saturday, Jan. 14, Georgetown hosts UConn to renew an old BIG EAST rivalry, and on Sunday, Jan. 29, Villanova hosts Virginia in a BIG EAST-ACC showdown that pits the defending national champion Wildcats against a surging Cavaliers squad that reached last season’s Elite Eight.
