FOX Sports Kicks Off its Third MLS Season with Historic Debuts for Expansion Atlanta and Minnesota
2017 Coverage Includes MLS All-Star Game And First Sporting Event Ever in Mercedes-Benz Stadium, Home of NFL’s Atlanta Falcons and MLS’ Atlanta United
LOS ANGELES, CA – On the heels of a record-breaking MLS Cup, FOX Sports today unveils its 2017 Major League Soccer regular-season television schedule, featuring the league’s two new franchises, Minnesota United and Atlanta United, making their MLS debuts on FS1 and FOX Deportes on opening weekend.
FOX Sports begins its third MLS season in Portland, Ore., with its first-ever Friday night MLS match when the Portland Timbers host Eastern Conference newcomers Minnesota United on March 3 at 9:30 PM ET on FS1 and FOX Deportes. Action continues two days later when Miguel Almirón’s Atlanta United takes on Sasha Kljestan and the reigning Eastern Conference regular-season champion New York Red Bulls on Sunday, March 5 at 7:00 PM ET on FS1 and FOX Deportes.
FOX Sports is scheduled to televise 33 regular-season matches, including four on the FOX broadcast network, 29 on FS1, with all 33 matches simulcast in Spanish on FOX Deportes. In addition, FOX Sports provides coverage of the 2017 MLS All-Star Game. Further details will be announced in the coming weeks.
The first match on the FOX broadcast network comes Saturday, April 15 at 2:30 PM ET when Orlando City hosts the LA Galaxy at their brand new stadium in downtown Orlando. Other matches on FOX include the 2016 MLS Cup champion Seattle Sounders as they square off against the Portland Timbers on May 27; a crosstown battle between New York Red Bulls and New York City FC on June 24; and Atlanta United’s stadium opener against Orlando City at Mercedes-Benz Stadium on July 30.
This year’s MLS schedule features eight appearances by the 2015 MLS Cup champion Portland Timbers, six appearances each by Gyasi Zardes’s LA Galaxy, Bradley Wright-Philips’s New York Red Bulls, and David Villa’s New York City FC. Featured five times this season are Clint Dempsey’s 2016 MLS Cup champion Seattle Sounders, Kaka’s Orlando City and Hector Villalba’s Atlanta United.
Just as MLS has done for the World Cup since 2010 and the 2016 Copa America Centenario, the 2017 schedule includes a break for the CONCACAF Gold Cup group stage for the first time. Group stage matches for the CONCACAF Gold Cup will be played from July 7 through July 17 on FOX Sports and Univision.
All regular season games airing on FOX, FS1 and FOX Deportes can also be live streamed via FOX Sports GO and FOX Soccer 2Go. FOX Sports GO is available on FOXSportsGO.com or on the FOX Sports GO app, which can be downloaded from iTunes, Google Play, Amazon App Store and Windows Store. Streaming is also now available on several connected devices, including Apple TV, Android TV, FireTV, Roku, Chromecast and Xbox One.
