UFC FIGHT NIGHT on FOX Sports 1: Edgar vs. Swanson on Saturday, Nov. 22
LOS ANGELES – FOX Sports 1 presents UFC® FIGHT NIGHT ON FOX SPORTS 1: EDGAR vs. SWANSON on Saturday, Nov. 22 (10:00 PM ET), headlined by a clash of top-ranked featherweights, as No. 3 Frankie Edgar (16-4-1) battles No. 2 Cub Swanson (21-5). The highly anticipated bout caps off five and a half hours of live coverage on FOX Sports 1 that evening.
UFC FIGHT NIGHT ON FOX SPORTS 1 takes place in Austin, Texas, and features the five-round main event between former lightweight champion Edgar and Swanson. Edgar (16-4-1, fighting out of Toms River, N.J.) returns to action riding a two-fight win streak and hopes to earn his spot as the next title contender. The former lightweight champ has been a force since dropping to 145 pounds and is looking for his chance to become only the third fighter in UFC history to claim gold in two different weight classes. Swanson (21-5, fighting out of Albuquerque, N.M.), is been on a six-fight undefeated tear since January, 2012, which includes wins over Ross Pearson, Dustin Poirier and, most recently, Jeremy Stephens. The heavy-handed knockout artist has his sights set on a potential title shot in 2015.
“This is an extremely important fight between two top featherweights to prove who is the true number-one contender in an extremely stacked 145-pound weight class,” says UFC on FOX analyst Kenny Florian. “This has the potential to be one of the best fights of the year. Frankie will go down as a Hall of Famer, and Swanson is currently at his best of his career. Cub is an unpredictable and powerful striker motivated to get the belt, while Frankie, with his speed and amazing footwork, is looking to become a rare two division champ.”
In addition to the Edgar vs. Swanson headliner, the main card features five more thrilling matchups, including a key clash between No. 7-ranked lightweight Bobby Green (23-5) and No. 13 Edson Barboza (14-2). The 11th-ranked flyweight Brad Pickett (25-9) battles Chico Camus (14-5). Jared Rosholt (11-1) faces off with Oleksiy Oliynyk (49-9-1) in a heavyweight bout. Flyweights No. 2 Joseph Benavidez (20-4) and No. 13 Dustin Ortiz (14-3) go head-to-head, and Matt Wiman (15-7) takes on Isaac Vallie-Flagg (14-5-1) in a lightweight bout to kick off the main card. Jon Anik and Brian Stann call the fights live from the Frank Erwin Center in Austin.
The two-hour UFC FIGHT NIGHT PRELIMS feature four bouts including Ruslan Magomedov (12-1) vs. undefeated Josh Copeland (9-0) in a heavyweight scrap. Middleweights Luke Barnatt (8-1) and Roger Narvaez (6-1) face off, while undefeated lightweight James Vick (6-0) battles Nick Hein (11-1, 1NC),and veteran Yves Edwards (42-21-1, 1NC) and Akbarh Arreola (22-8-1) open the PRELIMS with a lightweight bout.
