Georgetown Athletics Partners with FOX on Long-Term Multimedia Rights Agreement
The Georgetown University Department of Intercollegiate Athletics and FOX announced today a new long-term multimedia rights agreement in which FOX-owned Home Team Sports will become the exclusive sales and marketing representative on behalf of the Hoyas.
The rights will be managed by Georgetown Sports Properties, a newly-created entity, and will include radio, corporate hospitality, in-venue signage, digital and social media integration, promotional activities, and intellectual property rights, as well as other mutually agreed upon inventory. Georgetown previously managed its multimedia rights in-house.
"Georgetown’s valued brand will be enhanced by this new relationship with FOX and will assist us in the achievement of our strategic initiatives," Director of Intercollegiate Athletics Lee Reed said. "FOX has been a tremendous partner for the BIG EAST Conference and our association with one of the leaders in the sports industry will help to expand our reach not only in our market, but nationally and worldwide."
"Of great importance is that this is an opportunity that will benefit our student-athletes and our coaches. We look forward to maximizing the vast potential in this partnership on every level."
This agreement with Georgetown Athletics deepens FOX’s existing relationship with the University as the television rights holder of the BIG EAST Conference. Most Georgetown athletic events such as men’s basketball, women’s basketball, and Olympic sports, are distributed on FOX Sports media platforms.
Georgetown Senior Associate Athletic Director for External Affairs Dan O’Neil will oversee the FOX relationship. In addition, Jeff Ajluni has been named General Manager, Georgetown Sports Properties and Vice President, FOX Sports, to oversee the sales efforts, reporting to FOX Sports Vice President Dan Shell.
“It’s a privilege to partner with Georgetown and be trusted with such a prestigious brand,” said Shell. “We look forward to working with the university to create opportunities on the local, regional and national levels.”
“We’re very excited to expand our partnership with FOX and to establish Georgetown Sports Properties as our signature multimedia entity for Hoyas Athletics,” O’Neil said. “We are confident that FOX will bring a lot of new ideas to the table and new value that will benefit us both.”
Ajluni joins Georgetown Sports Properties from the St. Louis Blues, where he served as Group Vice President, Corporate Partnerships & Community Development. In that role, he oversaw all corporate sales, service and partnerships, including broadcast and new media sales, and the further development of community partner programs, charitable efforts and new business initiatives.
Colin Smith will serve as Associate General Manager for Georgetown Sports Properties.
