Leslie Osborne says the U.S. has to come out strong in tomorrow’s game against Colombia:
“They need to make a statement. I want to see them come out in the first minute with this mentality and this fire. You saw it in Germany. You saw it in France. They need to go after it. The U.S. has shown how strong their back line is, and that has been their back bone…they need to have a ninety minute performance and they need to score goals.”
Heather Mitts responds to the Brazilian head coach’s claims that his team’s elimination was due to being given a harder game path:
“They had a cake walk up until today’s game and the fact that they were able to rest all of their top players (their) last game and he’s complaining about this? Come on.”
Kelly Smith on the “difficult bracket” comments from Brazil’s head coach:
“You just look at the U.S.’s group and how strong that group was. Brazil had it easy and then they come up to the biggest test and they fail at that hurdle. (He) sounds a little bit bitter if I’m honest.”
Monica Gonzalez champions Australia as a team to watch:
“This is a team that has had players training in the NWSL for a while. They know United States soccer, and they know what that next level is like. They have taken it to the next level at home, training in an Olympic training center with top level athletes and you can just sense something a bit more professional about them.”
Leslie Osborne on how France played earlier today against South Korea:
“This French team is so dangerous. Their execution was incredible, they were confident, they possessed the ball. South Korea had a hard time getting the ball and once they did the French team closed them down quickly. This French team showed why they’re number three in the world and why this next game against Germany is going to be massive.”
Eric Wynalda on how France played today against South Korea and why he sees the Germany-France game as “the most intriguing game” of the tournament:
“(France) showed some nastiness today. Any time the ball got in the middle of the field they weren’t afraid to just defend. They forced the issue, they’re certainly trying to make it happen, not letting it happen. The middle of the park (during the Germany-France match), that’s going to be a mosh pit. There’s going to be a lot of yellow cards, and eventually someone will burst out of there and have a moment of magic. This is going to be the most intriguing game we’ve seen thus far in this World Cup.”
Eric Wynalda addresses Herdman’s management style and pressures of being the host country:
“The pressure has been kind of mounting on this team and if you’re going to criticize Herdman at all you have to (ask), ‘Why are you putting it on your players?’ Take it off your players. Let’s face it, that guy loves the attention, but being the host country is hard. There are so many things going through your head.”
