FOX-Record 5.7 Million Watch USA Defeat China in FIFA WOMEN’S WORLD CUP 2015™ Quarterfinal:
Last night’s FIFA Women’s World Cup quarterfinal, which saw the U.S. defeat China, 1-0, attracted 5.7 million viewers on FOX, a new soccer record for the network, breaking the short-lived mark set June 18 for the USA-Nigeria Group Stage match (5.0 million) by 14%. The match is now the third most-watched women’s soccer match of all time, trailing only the USA-China 1999 Women’s World Cup Final (17,975,000) and the Japan-USA 2011 Women’s World Cup Final (13,458,000).
USA-China delivered FOX Sports GO 137,000 unique users on Friday, making it the second-most viewed event in the app’s history. First is the FIFA WOMEN’S WORLD CUP TONIGHT 2015™ Round of 16 match between USA and Colombia (164,000), while 2015 USA-Australia Group Stage is third (119,000). Including last week’s U.S. Open Golf Championship, it’s the fifth time FOX Sports GO has exceeded 100,000 unique streams since June 18.

Former USWNT player Heather Mitts previews Tuesday’s USA vs. Germany semifinal:
“Whoever wins this game is going to win the whole thing. It starts with defense, and the U.S. back five have been great, but against Germany, they need to be better in the midfield.
“If you’re the U.S., you need to get the ball to Megan Rapinoe as often as possible if you want the best chance of winning against Germany.”
Former England international Kelly Smith puts England’s win over Canada in perspective:
“They’re playing absolutely brilliantly. [Head Coach] Mark Sampson has them together, he has them organized, and he has them believing that they can actually win the World Cup. This is fantastic for the game back in England. All the press will be covering this – front page news, back page news, magazines – it’s massive that they’ve been able to do this.”
Alexi Lalas says a 1-0 win for Japan is different from a 1-0 win for the U.S.:
“The difference, when we compare and contrast the way Japan has played and the way the U.S. has played, is that Japan is very content. This is how they are. They feel very comfortable. When we look at the U.S. and we say that they really haven’t done anything yet, it’s that there’s the potential for them to be doing so much more. For Japan, there’s not that potential. This is how Japan plays and how Japan is successful.”
With Germany’s Dzsenifer Marozsan doubtful for Tuesday’s semifinal against the U.S., former German international Ariane Hingst says that the squad still has plenty of weapons:
“Germany still has a lot of guns out there who can step into her place.”
