UFC TONIGHT Quotes: UFC 190 Rousey vs. Correia Preview
LOS ANGELES – Kenny Florian, Daniel Cormier and Karyn Bryant preview the upcoming UFC 190 and talk to bantamweight champ Ronda Rousey about her title defense vs. Bethe Correia. Flyweight challenger John Dodson is also interviewed.
UFC TONIGHT host Daniel Cormier on Ronda Rousey being a big favorite over Bethe Correia at UFC 190: “She’s dominated the division and dominated every opponent she’s faced. She should be the big favorite. Her hands are getting better. She used to be grappler and now she can strike with anyone. She’s said she wants to punish Bethe in this fight.”
UFC TONIGHT host Kenny Florian on Rousey’s keys to victory at UFC 190: “She’s so good with her throwing skills, and she can strike now. She can hit the armbar from anywhere. Ronda needs to throw combinations of strikes and to land the takedown. She’s so dangerous on the ground.”
Cormier on Correia’s keys to victory: “She needs to try to overwhelm Rousey with her striking and power. She needs to control the range of the fight, stay on the outside and avoid the clinch. This is an uphill battle, but she can get it done.”
Florian on what Correia needs to do to win: “There’s confidence being an undefeated fighter. She’s a great boxer and she’s tough, durable, and powerful. She needs to use the leg kicks. If she gets in the clinch with Ronda, she has to use her dirty boxing or break away.”
UFC bantamweight champion Ronda Rousey on saying she’s going to punish Bethe Correia and her mom wanting a quick finish instead: “I explained to my mom I’m actually being more risky if I go for a fast finish, and going more slowly would be the safer way to win.”
Rousey on how she thinks the fight will finish: “With me winning in the most fantastical way. I want fans go: ‘Wow, what just happened there? I want to watch it all over again.’ I only plan the first exchange and then just go with it, so your guess is as good as mine.”
Rousey on if she’ll still hold a grudge against Correia if she wins: “I still won’t like her. But I won’t have to think about her anymore. She’ll have to think about me every day. Then I’m going to go think about beating up Miesha again. Then I’ll forget about her. Then I’m going to go make a movie – Mile 22 – with Mark Wahlberg.”
Rousey on being the favorite in the fight: “In the grand goal, I’m not the favorite. I want to be one of the most dominant fighters who’ve ever lived and retire undefeated. I’m an underdog in that.”
Rousey on expecting cheers or boos fighting in Brazil: “It doesn’t matter. I know it’s going to be loud and everyone cares. If they don’t care, that’s bad. I don’t go out there to be liked. I go out there to be cared about.”
Rousey on if she saw Miesha Tate’s last fight and if she wants to fight her again: “I didn’t see it because I was about to train. I heard it was an awesome fight. I’ll be happy to beat up Miesha a third time if that’s what the fans want.”

Flyweight No. 1 contender John Dodson on his upcoming title fight rematch with champion Demetrious Johnson: “I get to do something nobody else has done. I’m going to bring a bigger crowd to the fight. Nobody wants to see him, they want to see me.”
Dodson on what will be different in this rematch: “My cardio sucked. I won’t lie to you. I didn’t have a strength and conditioning coach. Now I have my coaches working together and a strength and conditioning coach. And I got so caught up in the moment. I was so excited fighting for the title. I had like seven-million people watching on FOX. My grandmother was watching the fight.”
Dodson on if he’s the only guy who can beat Johnson: “Of course. DJ has been a plague in our division, keeping us from our stardom. We’re the true talent. The lighter classes are more technical, we’re very fast and we have better movement. I’m going to shut him down with power. I did it the first time and I’ll do it again.”
Dodson on beating bantamweight champ TJ Dillashaw in the past: “I’ve already beat DJ once and they’re telling me I have to do it again? Sure. Then I’ll beat up Dillashaw again. I’ve seen him with his eyes glazed over, cuddling around Herb Dean. I can do it again.”

Florian who bantamweight champion TJ Dillashaw should fight next: “It should be Dominick Cruz. People like to make comparisons between them and say they’re similar, but they really are not. Dominick is way better defensively, while TJ is way better offensively. I can’t wait for this fight. It has to happen.”
UFC TONIGHT Insider Ariel Helwani on additional fights at UFC 191: “The UFC has targeted Frank Mir vs. Andrei Arlovski at UFC 191. We’ll see if it gets done. They also reached out to Alistair Overeem. He wants to wait for Junior dos Santos to get healthy. Dos Santos said he’d be ready in December or January.”
Helwani on Jorge Masvidal’s next fight: “Jorge Masvidal wants to fight vs. Dong Hyun Kim in Korea on Nov. 28.”
Helwani on Benson Henderson’s return: “Benson is on the verge of getting cleared from his recent injury. He wants to fight in Korea and wants to be in the main event. His management team says he’d fight at either 155 or 170.”
