German Super Cup Rematch Highlights Mid-Week Bundesliga Action
The 2015-16 Bundesliga season enters Week 6 with exciting mid-week action on FOX Sports channels for the first time, led by defending league champion Bayern Munich taking on German Super Cup champion Wolfsburg, tomorrow, Tuesday, Sept. 22 at 1:30 PM ET on FS1. These teams, both undefeated after five matches and battling for top spot in the Bundesliga, last met in the hotly-contested German Super Cup Final in August where Wolfsburg was victorious on penalties following a 1-1 draw during regular time.
Bundesliga matches, televised widely in the U.S. for the first time this year, are gaining traction. Just a week ago, the match between Bayern Munich and Augsburg re-aired Sunday afternoon (9/13) on FOX and drew 926,000 viewers up against stiff NFL competition, making it the most-watched Bundesliga match ever televised in the U.S.
Bayern Munich and Wolfsburg are two of three more teams appearing on FOX Sports channels that are coming off UEFA Champions League and UEFA Europa League group stage play last week, as Schalke, Werder Bremen and Borussia Dortmund highlight the three other matches in the Bundesliga this week. Darmstadt and Werder Bremen face off tomorrow at 2:00 PM ET on FOX Soccer Plus. Hoffenheim vs. Borussia Dortmund headlines FS1’s match on Wednesday, Sept. 23 at 1:30 PM ET, followed by Schalke and Eintracht Frankfurt at 2:00 PM ET on FOX Soccer Plus. All matches are available on FOX Soccer 2Go, and both FS1 matches are available via the FOX Sports GO app and online at FOXSportsGO.com.
Ian Joy hosts FS1’s pregame, halftime and postgame coverage from Los Angeles on Tuesday with Eric Wynalda, Jovan Kirovski and Alexi Lalas. Wednesday’s studio show features Joy alongside Wynalda and Warren Barton. Sports Illustrated’s Grant Wahl joins via satellite on Tuesday.
On the Spanish-language side, FOX Deportes televises the clash between Hertha Berlin and FC Koln tomorrow at 2:00 PM ET, followed by a delayed presentation of Darmstadt and Werder Bremen. Wednesday’s sole match sees Mainz taking on Mexican forward Chicharito Hernandez and Bayer Leverkusen at 2:00 PM ET. Play-by-play announcer Ariel Torrone and analyst Claudio Suarez provide commentary for Hertha Berlin vs. FC Koln, while John Laguna and Mariano Trujillo call the Bayer Leverkusen-Mainz matchup.
Week 7 of the Bundesliga resumes Friday, Sept. 25 on FOX Sports and FOX Deportes.
