World Champion Christen Press Joins FOX Sports’ @TheBuzzer
U.S. Women’s National Team forward and World Cup champion Christen Press, one of the most recognizable names in women’s soccer, becomes the first active athlete to contribute to FOX Sports’ @TheBuzzer, the trend-setting digital series bringing fans the most talked-about sports videos, stories and GIFs from the Internet and beyond. Stories are posted several times a day on Facebook, Twitter and YouTube and are featured throughout FS1 programming.
“Working with such a cool digital series like @TheBuzzer was such an attractive opportunity for me and I am so thrilled to be a part of it,” Press said. “It’s great that I get to talk about the sport that I love, being on the other side of the camera, and help it grow in a new and different way.”
Press is slated to make 25 @TheBuzzer appearances through the end of the calendar year, working at FOX Sports’ digital studio in Los Angeles while continuing her training and full-time commitments to the U.S. Women’s National Team. She joins @TheBuzzer correspondents Kristen Balboni, Andy Nesbitt and Nicole Dabeau, who is currently on maternity leave.
“Soccer @TheBuzzer is one of our most popular video series and we’re excited to have such a great personality in Christen joining it,” Matt Schnider, VP of Digital Production said. “We’ve been looking to expand to current athletes at the top of their game and Christen brings the passion and on-the-field experience that make her a perfect fit.”
Press makes her @TheBuzzer debut as an embedded correspondent with the American Outlaws in Pasadena leading up to kickoff of the CONCACAF CUP between Mexico and the United States on Saturday, Oct. 10. She also joins forces with Pilar Perez from FOX Deportes to set the scene on the field prior to the historic showdown as the rivals prepare to battle for a spot in the prestigious 2017 FIFA Confederations Cup, and is part of FS1’s special 90-minute pregame show live from the sold-out Rose Bowl beginning at 8:00 PM ET. Press joins host Rob Stone, analysts Alexi Lalas, Eric Wynalda, Brad Friedel, Mariano Trujillo, Fernando Fiore and reporters Grant Wahl and Julie Stewart-Binks.
