FOX Sports Acquires Mexican National Soccer Team Rights
FOX Sports has acquired English-language rights to the Mexican National Team (El Tricolor) in the United States through the 2018 FIFA World Cup, it was announced today by David Nathanson, Head of Business Operations, FOX Sports. Under the terms of the deal between Fox Sports and Univision Deportes, FS1 televises all El Tricolor home matches, including a highly anticipated qualifier between Mexico and the United States from the Azteca Stadium in Mexico City should both teams advance in World Cup qualifying.
“Outside of Mexico, the United States has more El Tricolor supporters than anywhere else in the world,” said Nathanson. “FOX Sports is now home to the most prestigious tournaments featuring El Tricolor including the 2016 Copa America Centenario, 2017 FIFA Confederations Cup for which Mexico will represent the CONCACAF region, and the 2018 FIFA World Cup in Russia.”
El Tricolor on FS1 kicks off Wednesday, Feb. 10, when Mexico, under new coach Juan Carlos Osorio, faces Senegal, as part of the annual Mexican National Team U.S. tour.
Univision Deportes, the multimedia sports division of Univision Communications Inc. (UCI), maintains Spanish-language rights for El Tri in the United States.
