FOX Broadcast Network to Air First-Ever FA Cup-MLS Doubleheader Saturday
The FOX broadcast network on Saturday, May 21 will feature a doubleheader of soccer matches from multiple competitions – a first for the network – as part of a week of major clashes on multiple FOX Sports networks that includes seven highly-anticipated matches featuring the UEFA Europa League, Bundesliga, FA Cup, MLS and important tune-ups for big summer tournaments.
Leading off Wednesday, May 18, on FS1, Liverpool takes on Sevilla in the UEFA Europa League Final in Basel, Switzerland, with a place in the Champions League group stages on the line. FS1’s studio coverage of the UEFA Europa League Final begins at 2:00 PM ET with host Ian Joy and studio analysts Warren Barton, Stu Holden and Alexi Lalas. Play-by-play announcer John Strong and analyst Brad Friedel call the action.
The following day, Thursday, May 19, on FS1 and FOX Deportes, Bundesliga takes center stage with the first leg of the 2016 relegation playoffs featuring Eintracht Frankfurt, who finished 16th in Bundesliga, and FC Nürnberg, who is guaranteed to finish third in Bundesliga 2. Pregame coverage begins at 2:00 PM ET with Bundesliga veteran Ian Joy and 1992 Bundesliga Newcomer of the Year Eric Wynalda. Calling the action are Ross Fletcher and Stu Holden. On the Spanish-language side, Jairo Moncada and Christian Bozzo call the action for FOX Deportes.
On Saturday, May 21, the FOX broadcast network televises back-to-back matches from two different soccer organizations – FA Cup and Major League Soccer – a first for the network. In the first showdown, favored Manchester United faces underdogs Crystal Palace at Wembley Stadium in London. Coverage begins at 12:00 PM ET with host Rob Stone, analysts Eric Wynalda and Warren Barton, and live on-site analysis from former English Premier League, US World Cup Team and MLS star Brad Friedel. The U.S. Men’s National Team leads the action with a big Copa America Centenario tune-up, facing Puerto Rico for the first time in team history in Bayamón, Puerto Rico. Studio coverage begins at 11:30 AM ET on FS1 with host Rob Stone and studio analysts Eric Wynalda and Alexi Lalas.
