FS1 Adds Hour-Long Special Friday Previewing Saturday’s MLS Cup
In anticipation of its first MLS Cup presentation, FOX Sports has added a special MLS Cup preview show on Friday, Dec. 9 at 10:00 PM ET on FS1. The show airs the night before FOX’s presentation of the 2016 MLS Cup, the league’s 21st annual championship game which this year features a star-studded matchup between the Eastern Conference champion Toronto FC and Western Conference champion Seattle Sounders.
Rob Stone hosts the hour-long show from BMO Field alongside former MLS stars Alexi Lalas, Eric Wynalda and Stu Holden with special reports from Sports Illustrated and FOX Sports soccer insider Grant Wahl. The program features an extensive preview of Saturday’s game including exclusive interviews with players from both teams. Former Sounders coach Sigi Schmid, the winningest coach in MLS history, will also join the show.
Toronto FC advanced to MLS Cup after knocking out their Canadian counterparts Montreal Impact, 7-5, on aggregate in the Eastern Conference Championship series. Seattle Sounders FC advanced to MLS Cup by sealing a 3-1 aggregate win over the Colorado Rapids. Both Sounders FC and Toronto FC are first-time MLS Cup participants, with Toronto hosting the single-game championship by way of finishing the regular season with a higher points total.
The 2016 MLS Cup is set to air on the FOX broadcast network in prime time on Saturday, Dec. 10, with coverage beginning at 7:30 PM ET. This marks the first time since 2008 that the MLS Cup will air live on English-language network television.
