Minnesota United and Atlanta United Make MLS Debuts on FS1 and FOX Deportes

LOS ANGELES, CA – FOX Sports begins its coverage of the 2017 Major League Soccer season with the league’s two new franchises, Minnesota United and Atlanta United, both making their MLS debuts on FS1 and FOX Deportes. Coverage begins Friday, March 3 when the 2015 MLS Cup champion Portland Timbers host Western Conference newcomers Minnesota United.
Rob Stone hosts FS1’s first-ever Friday night MLS pregame show live from a field-level set at Portland’s Providence Park beginning at 9:30 PM ET. Lead play-by-play announcer John Strong calls the match alongside former MLS star Alexi Lalas. Emmy Award-winning broadcaster Katie Witham serves as FOX Sports’ new MLS sideline reporter. Friday’s coverage includes an exclusive interview with MLS Commissioner Don Garber. On FOX Deportes, coverage kicks off at 9:00 PM ET with a special edition of FOX DEPORTES EN VIVO. John Laguna and Mariano Trujillo have the call in Spanish with Jaime Motta reporting from the sideline.
Action continues two days later when Miguel Almirón’s Atlanta United takes on Sasha Kljestan and the reigning Eastern Conference regular-season champion New York Red Bulls on Sunday, March 5 at 7:00 PM ET on FS1 and FOX Deportes. Strong and Lalas are on the call with Witham reporting from the sideline. Laguna and Trujillo are on the call in Spanish with Motta reporting from the sideline.
FOX Sports’ 2017 MLS schedule features 33 regular-season matches, including four on the FOX broadcast network and 29 on FS1, with all 33 matches simulcast in Spanish on FOX Deportes. In addition, FOX Sports’ Facebook Live soccer show “The Rec League” features weekly MLS segments and PROcast highlights MLS players throughout the season across TV, digital and social platforms.
FOX broadcast network’s first match of the season comes Saturday, April 15 at 2:30 PM ET when Orlando City hosts the LA Galaxy at the club’s brand new stadium in downtown Orlando. Other matches on FOX include the 2016 MLS Cup champion Seattle Sounders against the Portland Timbers on May 27; a crosstown battle between the New York Red Bulls and New York City FC on June 24; and Atlanta United’s stadium opener against Orlando City at Mercedes-Benz Stadium on July 30 – the first ever sporting event played in the brand new facility. In addition, FOX Sports provides coverage of the 2017 MLS All-Star Game from Chicago’s Soldier Field on Wednesday, Aug 2.
