FOX Sports Introduces Corner Flag Cams for Saturday’s MLS Cup
CHARLOTTE, N.C. – FOX Sports is set to deliver a new point of view for Saturday’s MLS Cup between host Atlanta United FC and the Portland Timbers, introducing corner flag cameras to its 26-camera arsenal from Mercedes-Benz Stadium. Coverage begins on FOX and the FOX Sports app at 7:30 PM ET.
“There are probably a finite amount of camera positions left in terms of soccer coverage,” said Michael Davies, FOX Sports SVP of Field and Technical Operations. “We have seen the value of pylon cameras in American football from time to time, so we decided to try the corner flags … we’ll look for opportunities to use this new view to enhance our storytelling.”
In addition to the new flag cams, being used for the first time by the network, FOX Sports is deploying 16 manned cameras, 10 unmanned cameras, two shared cameras and two Super Slow-Motion cameras.
Rob Stone hosts FOX Sports’ field-level studio coverage, with analysis from Alexi Lalas and Maurice Edu. John Strong, Stu Holden and Katie Witham call the match.
