FOX NFC Championship Press Call Highlights
NEW YORK – This afternoon, FOX Sports conducted a press call to preview its coverage of the 2019 NFC Championship Game.
Pro Football Hall of Famer and three-time Super Bowl-winning quarterback Troy Aikman and seven-time Emmy Award-winning broadcaster Joe Buck preview the upcoming broadcast on Sunday, Jan. 20 at 3:00 PM ET, featuring the Los Angeles Rams and the New Orleans Saints at Mercedes Benz Superdome.
Highlights of today’s call are transcribed below. To listen to the entire replay, please dial 888-203-1112 and enter 3753571 when prompted.
FOX NFL lead game analyst Troy Aikman breaks down the quarterback matchup and makes a bold prediction about Jared Goff:
“It’s an interesting pairing between the two. You’ve got Drew Brees – in his 18th season and the all-time leader in passing yards, with all that he’s accomplished and what he’s meant to that city there in New Orleans – and Jared Goff, who’s off to a great start to his career, having been voted to the last two Pro Bowls. Now, he’s got a playoff win under his belt and he’s trying to achieve ultimately what Drew has already achieved…to win a Super Bowl title.
“I do believe that Jared Goff is going to win a Super Bowl, if not more, by the time his career is over. Maybe it’s this year. He’s been outstanding, and I said it last week going into our game against Dallas. He’s had a heck of a season, and it certainly helps with the players that he has around him. Then, of course, the play-caller in Sean McVay and what he’s meant to that organization. [Goff] has made throws this year that I would put up against any throws that I’ve seen ever. Whether it was back when I was playing and some of the great quarterbacks that I had a chance to watch during that period, or as a broadcaster. I think he’s been just terrific.”
FOX NFL lead play-by-play announcer Joe Buck reflects on his hectic schedule this season:
“I grew up watching my dad working himself to the bone – doing Cardinals baseball, then leaving and doing Sunday football with Hank. And then they go do Monday Night Football and my dad would fly back on red eyes and get up, or never go to bed, and do a morning radio show, and then Cardinals baseball that night. So, the idea of going through this season, and yes doing October baseball and Thursday Night Football was a lot more work, but it was fun. I think it was invigorating. I think it made Troy and me better. I think we are a better broadcast team sitting here on the 15th of January in 2019 than we were on the 15th of January in 2018. I think it made us a little more nimble – a little more pliable – not being able to fixate on one game a week. I think it made us a little looser and a little better.
“I look back on this year and I smile, because we had a lot of great moments as a network. Troy and I had fun times together on and off the air, and that is really what it is all about. We still love being in the booth together, and that is probably more than half the battle. We look forward to seeing each other, we make each other laugh, we trust each other, and I think we have gotten better. It has been a hell of a year, and it has been a lot of fun.”
