From the Gridiron to the Greens: Joel Klatt Makes the Cut For FOX Sports’ 2019 U.S. Open Television Coverage
Network’s Lead College Football Game Analyst Reports for USGA Championships on FOX and FS1
LOS ANGELES – FOX Sports lead college football game analyst Joel Klatt is taking on a new challenge this summer – temporarily trading the gridiron for the greens as a reporter for FOX Sports’ USGA championship coverage. A longtime student of the game, Klatt has served as a play-by-play announcer and host for FOX Sports’ digital coverage of the U.S. Open since the network began televising the championship in 2015.
“Joel has been a key part of our golf coverage since the very beginning, and we’re excited for viewers to see more of him in this new role,” said Mark Loomis, FOX Sports Executive Producer, USGA Studio and Event Production. “With his unique perspective and extensive broadcast experience, he is an invaluable addition to our roster.”
This summer, Klatt serves as a reporter for the U.S. Open, U.S. Women’s Open and U.S. Senior Open Championships, conducting post-round interviews with players and special guests.
An avid golfer currently playing at a 1 handicap, Klatt’s commitment to the game has grown over the years. A record-setting quarterback at the University of Colorado and high school baseball standout drafted by the San Diego Padres, Klatt credits former Buffaloes head coach Gary Barnett with first getting him out on the course, a pivotal moment in his personal life and professional career.
“I couldn’t be happier with this new opportunity on our USGA coverage,” said Klatt. “The past four years at the U.S. Open have been exhilarating, and I can’t wait to spend more one-on-one time with the best players in the world across these incredible championships.”
Klatt has been FOX Sports’ lead college football game analyst alongside play-by-play announcer Gus Johnson since 2015. For FOX Sports’ USGA coverage, he joins an accomplished group of golf broadcasters, led by play-by-play announcer Joe Buck and lead analyst Paul Azinger. Analysts Brad Faxon, Juli Inkster and Curtis Strange; on-course reporters Michael Breed, Ken Brown, Nicole Castrale, Steve Flesch and Brett Quigley; play-by-play announcer Shane Bacon and rules analyst David Fay round out the network’s 2019 golf lineup.
