LOS ANGELES – FOX Sports announces the return of its acclaimed series VOICES, featuring diverse sports stories impacting our communities and culture, with an all-new episode celebrating Juneteenth and the 50th anniversary of the passage of Title IX on Sunday, June 19 at 12 PM ET on FOX.
Hosted by FOX Sports’ Kristina Pink, the special episode features two powerhouse women in sports, Val Ackerman, Commissioner of the Big East and Kim Ng, General Manager of the Miami Marlins, to discuss the origins of Title IX and its impact on the advancement of women’s sports.
“I am honored to be part of this special episode”, said Pink. “To highlight and reflect on these pivotal moments in our history continues the discussion on how we can tackle injustices and empower future generations.”
Viewers will be introduced to Rachel Balkovec, the first female manager of an MLB affiliated team, to showcase how Title IX has paved the way for more women to assume top leadership positions in professional sports.
VOICES will also feature an inside look at the Los Angeles-based, female-owned and founded soccer club, Angel City FC, which began its inaugural season this year. The club is making strides to redefine women’s sports by enabling some of the best female athletes in the world to compete on the same stage.
Additionally, the special episode will honor Juneteenth and commemorate the historic day in our nation’s history. Viewers will join United States Football League (USFL) players Vontae Diggs and Jerod Fernandez of the New Orleans Breakers on their emotional, eye-opening tour of the Birmingham Civil Rights Institute as they explore the history behind the city’s civil rights movement. Diggs and Fernandez take a jarring historic walk through exhibits including an exhibition of the 16th Street Baptist Church bombing and the actual jail cell door from which behind Martin Luther King Jr. scribed his famous “Letter from Birmingham Jail.”
