‘Tis the FIFA World Cup Creative Campaign Continues Spreading Cheer as Celebrities, U.S. Men’s National Team Soccer Players Unite to Spotlight the World’s Biggest Sporting Event Taking Place for the First Time Ever During the Holiday Season

LOS ANGELES – Today, FOX Sports, America’s English-language home for the FIFA World Cup Qatar 2022TM, revealed the newest commercial in the network’s festive ‘Tis the FIFA World Cup creative campaign with a star-studded spot titled, “Superfan Santa,” promoting the anticipated tournament airing Sunday, Nov. 20 through Sunday, Dec. 18 across FOX Sports’ platforms.

The campaign picks up following this summer’s buzzworthy premiere, which saw Emmy Award-winning actor Jon Hamm, executive producer and star of FOX’s upcoming animated comedy series “Grimsburg,” appearing as Santa Claus on vacation and discovering the news of the FIFA World Cup TM taking place during the holiday season.

In this new installment, we head to the North Pole where Emmy nominated actress Ellie Kemper (“The Office”) stars as Mrs. Claus. Seven-time NFL Super Bowl Champion, Tom Brady, and multi-Grammy winning artist and the “Queen of Christmas,” Mariah Carey, join the jolly duo, making can’t-miss cameos as their legendary selves. Finally, the U.S. Men’s National Team (USMNT) takes a seat at the holiday dinner table as teammates Christian Pulisic, Walker Zimmerman, Weston McKennie, Tyler Adams, Jesús Ferreira, and Yunus Musah join in on the fun.

The spot makes its network premiere Sunday, Oct. 9 across the FOX NFL schedule.

FOX Sports’ “Superfan Santa” opens on Santa Claus in the North Pole, sitting behind his desk staring at a wall of TVs showing international soccer highlights. Frustrated with the change of focus around the holidays, Mrs. Claus lifts his spirits, suggesting a crowd of U.S. fans chanting in the stands are, in a way, caroling. Santa’s heart grows three times bigger as he realizes how amazing the FIFA World Cup TM is and the platform it provides for him to spread holiday cheer. He imagines scenarios of people watching the matches as he rattles off ideas to his elves: Brady in his kitchen commenting on Cristiano Ronaldo’s play, Carey with her glamsquad being far too busy given the time of year, and the USMNT passing dishes at an elaborate Thanksgiving feast. Santa realizes that the U.S. winning it all would be the best gift American fans can receive and he pictures himself leading a celebratory march down the streets of New York City. At last, Santa accepts sharing the holiday season with the highly celebrated FIFA World Cup TM tournament is the gift that keeps on giving.

Robert Gottlieb, President, Marketing, FOX Sports, shared his excitement in seeing the campaign concept come to life: “The 2022 World Cup is completely historic and unique because it’s the first time the tournament will take place during the holiday season, and our creative campaign featuring some of today’s biggest stars is focused on letting people know just how special this moment will be,” said Gottlieb. “Combining the greatest sporting event in the world with the most fun and festive time of the year is a supersize gift for fans.”

Added Hamm, “Working with FOX Sports to help set the stage for this historic winter World Cup has been a blast. Like Santa, I am also a huge World Cup fan, and I can’t wait to see the U.S. team take on the world in November. I believe!”

And finally, Brady chimed, “I’m a huge fan of all these athletes, and seeing them perform is really special. It was great to be a part of FOX Sports’ ad campaign. So, when the games get going, I’ll be watching the world’s best compete at the highest level in the World Cup.”

The ‘Tis the FIFA World Cup TM creative campaign was created in-house by FOX Sports Marketing and led by freelance Creative Director Gary Van Dzura. For a list of credits for “Superfan Santa,” click here.

From Sunday, Nov. 20 through Sunday, Dec. 18, FOX Sports will present all 64 FIFA World Cup Qatar 2022 TM matches live across FOX and FS1 with every match live streaming on the FOX Sports app. Breakfast, Lunch and Winners: 8:00 AM, 11:00 AM and 2:00 PM ET start times will provide fans with a new morning routine through the Round of 16.

FOX Sports Premieres FIFA World Cup Qatar 2022™ Creative Campaign Starring Jon Hamm

New Commercial Campaign Celebrates the World’s Biggest Sporting Event Taking Place for the First Time Ever During the Holiday Season

Click Here to Watch “Tis the FIFA World Cup”

LOS ANGELES – FOX Sports, America’s English-language home for the FIFA World Cup Qatar 2022TM, today announces Emmy Award-winning actor Jon Hamm, executive producer and star of FOX’s upcoming animated comedy series “Grimsburg,” the upcoming comedy “Confess, Fletch” and star of “Top Gun: Maverick,” will star as Santa Claus in its new creative campaign for this year’s anticipated tournament. For the first time in history, the FIFA World CupTM will take place during the holiday season providing fans across America with the opportunity to watch the beautiful game on FOX Sports throughout November and December.

The network’s new teaser opens with Hamm sitting poolside, as Santa Claus, when he receives an urgent phone call from the North Pole regarding the FIFA World CupTM taking place during the holiday season – his season. At the North Pole, the elves are already celebrating the big news unaware their boss will be upset. Upon hearing the news from his head elf, Santa’s spirits are no longer jolly as he realizes he must now perform up against some of the greatest global soccer icons on the world stage, including Cristiano Ronaldo and Lionel Messi. With a pout, Santa accepts this challenging feat and cuts his vacation short to get to work.

Robert Gottlieb, Executive Vice President, Marketing, FOX Sports, shared insight on the creative process that went into bringing the concept to life.

“One of the unique things about the FIFA World CupTM is that it’s a really communal experience where people want to get together with others to enjoy the event,” said Gottlieb. “To have that sync with the holidays this year for the first time ever, when we will all be gathering with friends and family, made for an incredible opportunity to embrace the holiday spirit in FOX Sports’ creative campaign. We look forward to following Santa on his soccer journey as he meets more surprise guest stars and becomes captivated with this year’s long-awaited tournament.”

FOX Sports’ FIFA World Cup Qatar 2022TM campaign debuts tonight during the Major League Baseball All-Star game on FOX and marks the first of three commercials set to launch in the lead-up to the tournament. Today’s Top Quotes:

FOX Sports lead studio analyst Alexi Lalas sums up the 2018 FIFA World Cup:

“This has been the best World Cup ever, for the surprises, the drama, the goals. Each and every day, we were gifted stories on and off the field. It was just a wonderful month.”

FOX Sports lead game analyst Stu Holden believes this World Cup delivered a great tournament:

“What I know for certain, at the end of this tournament, is soccer and this tournament have been the real winners. And all the action has been about the game, and the game is all that really matters at the end of the day. I love that people have enjoyed every ounce of drama that we’ve seen in this tournament.”

FOX Sports studio analyst and former England women’s international Kelly Smith sums up the World Cup Final between France and Croatia:

“This game had it all. It had VAR. It had the mistake by Lloris. Luckily enough, that didn’t cost them the game. You had Mbappe — 19 years old — winning his first World Cup. It was just a fantastic occasion. Well done to France, picking up that trophy.”

Lalas says France showed their talent winning the tournament:

“This is an undeniably talented team. They’re just getting better and better. We never saw the finished product, but they didn’t need it, and they went through the tournament. They scored the goals. They had wonderful defense. I thought Umtiti and Varane were wonderful in terms of clearing their lines. [Mbappe] is a star. He’ll be forever etched in the history books — 19 years old, scoring a goal in the final, World Cup winner. No matter what he does in his career, everyone will start the sentences when they talk about Mbappe with ‘World Cup winner in 2018’.”

FOX Sports studio analyst Guus Hiddink thinks France can be an even better team:

“I hope we will see more of France in the future, because to be honest, this France team didn’t perform well today. And I hope they step up — several players. For me, it was a bit disappointing.”

Lalas says France earned the victory:

“I know Guus wants to see more out of this team, and they are a work in progress. That’s what [France manager] Didier Deschamps would tell you. But man, if you can be a work in progress to win the World Cup, that’s not bad. I happened to like the way that they played. The ability to counter attack, with the speed, pace and recognition to do that was consistent through the tournament. Today, even when the pressure came, and they weren’t able to get out on that break, they still found ways to score goals in the final.”

Holden on what set France apart this tournament:

“They showed a maturity beyond their age for the team that’s the second youngest age in the tournament. And the manager, Didier Deschamps, to bounce back after losing in a final two years ago on home soil. They’ve been tough to beat. They’re good defensively, sound tactically, and they have difference makers with Mbappe, Pogba, Griezmann and Olivier Giroud. They’ve all played their part. They are worthy champions.”

Smith on Paul Pogba having a breakthrough World Cup tournament and final:

“This will probably be the making of Paul Pogba. He’s had a lot of criticisms back in England, playing for Manchester United: he doesn’t defend, he gets caught out of position, he doesn’t score enough goals.

“And in this game, he got himself a goal. He controlled the midfield, especially in the second half. He certainly delivered today. He took control of the game in the second half when it opened up and allowed himself to get a goal.”

Lalas believed Pogba redefined himself with this World Cup:

“If you’re not a Croatian fan, today you probably felt genuinely happy for Paul Pogba for putting the ball in. It comes from the fact that you can get defined by a World Cup and you can also be redefined. The way that he played, and the way that we view him, is so different from the way that he was playing at Manchester United. It’s wonderful, this transformation, this maturity, this leadership, and the sacrifice he made to do the work that needs to be done, even when he’s not scoring goals, even when he’s not getting a lot of attention. It was a wonderful tournament for him.”

Smith says Croatia was the better team, despite the loss:

“They had the majority of possessions, especially the way they started the game. The first 20 minutes, they were all over France. They just couldn’t convert any chances. The second half they looked a bit leggy in the last 20 minutes. They were putting crosses in by Rebic and Perisic, to Mandzukic, but he wasn’t getting on the end of them. For me, they played the better football. But France, going forward, you’ve got the threat of Mbappe. I thought Giroud was outstanding. He didn’t get a goal, but his hold-up play was good. And Griezmann lifted up his game. I felt Croatia had the better game, but obviously, come away losers.”

FOX Sports studio analyst Clarence Seedorf says Croatia should be proud of their performance: WATCH

“They should be really proud. They played a great final. They gave everything. A bit of luck, you need, and the luck was there for France today — the own goal, the handball, the penalty kick. All very crucial moments where Croatia was dominating and creating. But then again, you have to score the goals and France did that, and have done it through the whole tournament.”

Lalas gives his final grade on VAR for the tournament:

“I give it an A- because you can always improve some things. But I think it went off without a hitch, for the most part. We’re always going to have agreements and disagreements, but ultimately these are human beings making subjective decisions.

“I think it made the game better, it modified behavior of players, it was efficient, it was fast, and it was good.”
