  • “For them [Australia] to go out and hold themselves the way that they did in front of that crowd who’s just cheering them every single way, it’s just a testament to those people, those players. I’m just so proud of what they’re doing for women’s football and what they’re doing for this country.”
    • FOX Sports analyst and former Australia women’s national team captain Kate Gill on Lady Matildas making first-ever FIFA Women’s Cup Semifinals | WATCH
  • “Ten rounds of a shootout and we finally have a winner, and an unlikely hero in Cortnee Vine. We saw everything – saves by goalkeepers, goalposts hit,  players, fans not looking at some of the penalty kicks and then players celebrating in the end as Australia will have the biggest party they’ve ever had in Brisbane. It is the biggest win in their soccer history.”
    • FOX Sports play-by-play announcer JP Dellacamera following Australia’s historic win over France | WATCH
  • “I think England went through the ringer a little bit tonight. I think the expression on some of their faces – you saw a lot of the players not going around celebrating at the end of the final whistle. They were sat on the ground exhausted, with scenes of Rachel Daly, who sat on the ground, Lucy Bronze sat on the ground, literally exhausted because I think Colombia gave them a fantastic game. … I think that once you get into this stage of the tournament, there’s no easy game, there’s no easy team. But looking at the way in which Australia play, I think England put in a professional performance tonight and I think that they’ve got enough to go on and beat Australia.”

  • “When nobody believed, they did. When everybody wrote them off, they didn’t write themselves off. I think they’ve shown incredible grit, incredible passion, enjoyment as well. Not only just the players but the fan base as well, which has helped so much. … My only words to these players on Colombia: I’m so incredibly proud. We’ve made history. And this is so meaningful for Colombian women’s soccer moving forward. It’s going to make waves for the domestic league, for little girls that now are seeing Linda [Caicedo], seeing this whole team.”

Tonight’s Top Quotes:

  • “It used to be that everybody feared the U.S. and the US was always going in confident to these tournaments. But I think when you win, it’s easy to get comfortable. And I think this is a humble moment for the program, for the players, for the coaching staff, and it’s a wakeup call for the entire program because it’s easy to turn a blind eye when the senior team is winning, but this stems down at the youth level. The last time there was a youth World Cup championship that was won came in 2012. And that was with [Julie] Ertz, [Crystal] Dunn, Sam Mewis, Morgan Brian, so we are failing at the U-17 level, we are failing at the U-20 level, and it has to be a priority to develop players to get them fit again, to get them technically sound, tactically sound and now we’re chasing the rest of the world.”
    • FOX Sports analyst Carli Lloyd on what the USWNT needs to do to get back on top
  • “It’s also a wakeup call for the NWSL, our women’s professional league, and the most successful professional league in American history and fancies itself the best league in the world. Five of the 184 players left in this World Cup are from the NWSL – FIVE – Jessica Berman, you’re the commissioner of the NWSL, this is happening on your watch. And yes, this is a wakeup call. It is a battle for hearts and minds. This is an arms race for relevance and credibility with Europe. And unlike MLS, you have the advantage of a history and a success and a head start. So, you’ve got to solidify yourself as the best league, with the best players, with the best competition or you concede defeat and you’re never going to get that back because it’s not coming back and all of the European nations and all of the European clubs, they are coming for the U.S. so either fight or just give it away.”
    • FOX Sports analyst Alexi Lalas on what the USWNT needs to do to get back on top
  • “It’s just a testament with how many changes [Jorge] Vida has had on this team, with everything that has happened within the federation. We talk about them having 17 debutants to this squad, and we talked about the U.S. having 14; they had 17 That is absolutely incredible to have that many new players play in the World Cup and to make it farther than they ever have before. And to make it farther than they ever have before and have young players on the field be able to step up in critical moments and win a game like that? This is absolutely incredible, and all the credit to the Spanish federation and to this Spanish team to be able to do that.”
    • WOMEN’S WORLD CUP NOW analyst Leslie Osborne on Spain’s dramatic win and unique path to victory | WATCH
  • “The press that Sweden sustained when they lost possession of the ball – as soon as Japan got possession of the ball, Sweden was right there to either foul or regain possession. That speaks wonders … and that goes a lot with organization, training involved, tactically, positional – but also the endurance, the physicality, and your fitness. This is not Group Stage anymore; a lot of hours and a lot of minutes have been under these players’ legs. And so, to sustain that type of rhythm, to defend right away and be synchronized at the same time – that’s what I really loved out of Sweden today.”
    • WOMEN’S WORLD CUP NOW analyst Melissa Ortiz on Sweden’s fitness level impressing vs. Japan in Quarterfinals | WATCH

Tonight’s Top Quotes:

  • “No, it was not a millimeter. This was years in the making. This is going to haunt the players. I’ll give them credit in saying that they came out and they played; they played well, they just didn’t score a goal. But you can’t stay complacent and not evolve, and that is exactly what has happened. This is on the players, this is on Vlatko Andonovski, U.S. Soccer, that has contributed to this failure and this exit at the World Cup. The team was not prepared and a lot of these younger players, we’re going to see a new era, and a lot of these younger players, I hope will use this as a huge learning experience to get better in the future.”
    • FOX Sports analyst Carli Lloyd on the USWNT after their early exit in the Round of 16 | WATCH
  • “I loved it because it is saying right away, ‘This is not our standard. Anything except winning is a failure.”
    • USWNT veteran Heather O’Reilly shares her thoughts about U.S. Soccer’s statement today on WOMEN’S WORLD CUP NOW | WATCH
  • “The question is going to be why did it take three games for the team to actually show up in this World Cup. The damage was done in the Group Stage because of the weak performance in the Group Stage, instead of playing South Africa, you ended up having to play Sweden,  the number three team in the world. Having said all that, this was without a doubt a failure of historic proportions. This U.S. team has never finished worse than third in a World Cup, so obviously going out in the Round of 16 is not good. And when I look at the previous versions of this team that won the World Cup in 2015, in 2019, this is the weakest of the three, and so ultimately, they just weren’t good enough. The way they did it was commendable, but still, the damage was done early on.”
    • FOX Sports analyst Alexi Lalas reacts to the USWNT going home early | WATCH
  • “That was well-coached and well-planned by England. They were able to defend, had clear structure, clear units that worked hard and they knew what they were trying to do at the end. … That was excellent defending. They made it really difficult for Nigeria to break them down, and defense is the sign of a great team that can go on and win a tournament.”
    • WOMEN’S WORLD CUP NOW analyst Freya Coombe on England’s hard-fought win over Nigeria | WATCH
  • “What they’re doing is – they are role models for the next generation of players that we have coming through here. You’ve got young boys and girls who are lookin gup to these players and they want to be the next Sam Kerr. So it’s really changing the face of football in this country.”

    • USWNT goalkeeper Alyssa Naeher shares thoughts on loss to Sweden in postgame interview with FOX Sports’ Jenny Taft | WATCH
  • “They [USWNT] are all going to hurt from this, there’s no doubt about it. But they are going to remember this moment and they are going to come back better. And it’s going to be better for the program, and that’s what they have to keep doing – they have to just keep plugging away and come back better and stronger. But this game is a cruel game sometimes.”
    • FOX Sports analyst Carli Lloyd following USWNT’s tournament-ending defeat in Round of 16 | WATCH
  • “We’ve always been able to win by scaring the opponent into submission and I really do think that this is a United States team and program that has to look itself in the mirror and really reflect upon where we go from here, because that isn’t going to be the way forward anymore. The other teams are too good, they’re too nuanced, they’re too tactical and they’re too savvy. And so, the U.S. has to figure out what style of play they want to go with, what highlights their players the most and ultimately, can we be more flexible. We can’t just be a 4-3-3 system, a 4-3-3 team if we don’t have the personalities to dominate in that system, and I do think that’s something that the U.S. is going to have to face.”

  • “I look at the 14 players that are debutants… what they’ve learned from being in this World Cup and this moment and going out this way, I think that is going to help shape them.”
    • WOMEN’S WORLD CUP NOW analyst Leslie Osborne on USWNT’s next steps following 2023 tournament | WATCH
  • “It’s an honor to represent this team, and I’m excited for the future of these girls. … I hope the grit [passes on], Kelley O’Hara always says we just rent these jerseys and it’s the job to pass it down to the younger ones to continue that in our DNA.”

FOX SPORTS FILMS ANNOUNCES FINDING HOME: JOURNEY TO MLB FROM ACCLAIMED FILMMAKER SETH GORDON PREMIERING SATURDAY, AUGUST 5 ON FS1 AND FOX DEPORTES

Documentary Explores the Extraordinary Journey and Challenges Faced by Latin American Baseball Players in Pursuit of Major League Dreams

Trailer Released Today (Click Here)

LOS ANGELES – Today, FOX Sports Films announces the premiere of FINDING HOME: JOURNEY TO MLB, a compelling, new documentary that provides an in-depth look into the extraordinary and unique journey of Latin American minor league baseball players and the many challenges they face pursuing the Major League Baseball (MLB) dream. Executive produced by acclaimed filmmaker Seth Gordon (“The Night Agent”, “Back in Action”) along with Nikki Calabrese (“The Long Game: Bigger Than Basketball”) and Matt Romito and directed by Samuel Peltz the documentary premieres tomorrow, Saturday, Aug. 5 at 11:30 PM ET on FS1, and will simulcast on FOX Deportes following FOX Sports’ presentation of the Los Angeles Dodgers at the San Diego Padres.

“FOX Sports invites viewers on an emotional and inspirational journey following these talented Latin American baseball players embarking on their lifelong dream to play in the Major Leagues,” said Barry Nugent, Vice President, Development and Original Programming, FOX Sports. “Under Seth Gordon’s creative guidance, the film captures the steadfast resilience and determination of these ballplayers, who emigrate to the United States, that is not readily visible to spectators of the game.”

FINDING HOME: JOURNEY TO MLB explores the passion, determination, and unwavering dedication shown by a group of young Latin American athletes in the Chicago Cubs farm system who leave behind their families and train for a chance to one day play in the major leagues. The film places viewers inside baseball training academies and shines a spotlight on the unknown challenges many minor league ballplayers endure to reach their dreams. Their struggles often include learning a second language, assimilating into American culture, and the anxiety and fear of failing to succeed. Approximately 6% of professional baseball players make it to the major leagues.

Through first-hand interviews, and unprecedented access into a player’s journey through the minor leagues, with perspectives of Cubs prospects along with the voices of Willson Contreras and Victor Martinez, FINDING HOME: JOURNEY TO MLB reveals the formula for success needed to play in MLB and discloses the raw emotions experienced when chasing a dream. While most of these young athletes dominate the sport physically, the film peels back the layers on the intense mental and emotional pressure sustained both on and off the field to achieve a certain level of greatness.

FINDING HOME: JOURNEY TO MLB is executive produced by Seth Gordon, Nikki Calabrese, and Matt Romito. Eric Shanks, Mark Silverman, Charlie Dixon and Barry Nugent of FOX Sports also serve as executive producers. The film is co-produced by MLB and the Chicago Cubs’ in-house production team, Cubs Productions, and is directed by Samuel Peltz.

FOX Sports Films is dedicated to presenting captivating global sports documentaries through an unconventional and entertaining lens. Working with FOX Sports’ league and conference partners, the brand produces original programming, connecting live sports events to sports culture.
