FOX Sports Unveils FIFA World Cup Tonight Broadcast Team Featuring Kate Abdo, Maurice Edu and Chad Johnson

LOS ANGELES – FOX Sports, America’s English-language home for the FIFA World Cup Qatar 2022™, today announces a dynamic, world-renowned trio of soccer personalities to anchor the network’s FIFA WORLD CUP TONIGHT show in acclaimed host Kate Abdo, former U.S. Men’s National Team (USMNT) star Maurice Edu and former NFL star – soccer aficionado Chad Johnson. Throughout the tournament, an additional guest analyst will join the trio on-set providing viewers and program alike with a versatile range of unique perspectives from soccer stars, personas and pundits.

Starting on the evening of Monday, Nov. 21, FIFA WORLD CUP TONIGHT will air on FOX at midnight across all time zones during the tournament. The show will also air on FS1 at 11:00 PM ET on most weekdays throughout the competition. On select match days, including Thanksgiving, Nov. 24, Black Friday, Nov. 25 and the FIFA World Cup Final on Sunday, Dec. 18, the show will premiere at 7:00 PM ET on FS1.

David Neal, Executive Producer of FIFA World Cup™ on FOX and Vice President of Production for FOX Sports, applauded the addition of the marquee trio to the network’s blossoming broadcast team.

Abdo returns to FOX Sports for her fourth FIFA World Cup™ with the network following fantastic hosting assignments at FIFA Women’s World Cup France 2019™, FIFA World Cup Russia 2018™ and FIFA Women’s World Cup Canada 2015™. The multilingual broadcaster and journalist has covered some of the most high-profile sporting events around the globe throughout her career.

FIFA World Cup Qatar 2022™ marks Edu’s second World Cup as a FOX Sports analyst after contributing to the network’s presentation of FIFA Women’s World Cup France 2019™. He joined FOX Sports at the end of 2018 and has since been a fixture across the network’s soccer properties. On the international stage, Edu earned 46 caps with the USMNT, representing the squad at the 2008 Summer Olympics and FIFA World Cup South Africa 2010™. Edu has the distinct accomplishment of being one of the cover athletes of the North American version of the FIFA Soccer ’09 video game. He is also an ambassador for the U.S. Soccer Foundation.

Johnson makes his FOX Sports debut as a contributing soccer analyst on FIFA WORLD CUP TONIGHT. An 11-year NFL veteran, Johnson was a six-time NFL Pro Bowler and four-time All-Pro who left a legacy on the field. He led the league in receiving in 2006 with 1,369 yards in 16 games for the Cincinnati Bengals. Johnson played soccer competitively growing up until attending Miami Beach Senior High School. In 2011, Johnson – then known as Chad Ochocinco – had a four-day trial with Major League Soccer club Sporting Kansas City. His passion for soccer has grown exponentially since then as both an avid fan and constant consumer of the beautiful game worldwide.

12 Hours of Daily Studio Programming Highlight New Slate, Debuting Tuesday, Sept. 6

Los Angeles – As football season kicks off, FS1’s daily studio slate returns in full force – offering 12 consecutive hours of coverage on the network each weekday. The day begins with THE CARTON SHOW, followed by FS1 cornerstones SKIP AND SHANNON: UNDISPUTED and THE HERD WITH COLIN COWHERD. The slate continues with FIRST THINGS FIRST in a new timeslot, followed by a fresh lineup on SPEAK, with NASCAR RACE HUB rounding out the day.

The all-new THE CARTON SHOW kicks off at 7:00 AM ET, featuring Craig Carton taking on the day’s breaking stories alongside a rotating group of co-hosts. Carton, a new addition to the FOX Sports family, is one of New York’s best-known voices, hosting a variety of popular radio shows on WFAN across his lengthy broadcasting career.

At 9:30 AM ET, SKIP AND SHANNON: UNDISPUTED remains the backbone of FS1’s daily lineup, featuring the indomitable Skip Bayless and Shannon Sharpe. The duo is joined by a new moderator, Jen Hale, a longtime FOX Sports sideline reporter with extensive NFL, NBA and college football experience. UNDISPUTED remains one of the tentpoles of FS1’s programming, continuing to post double digit year-over-year growth entering its sixth year on-air.

THE HERD WITH COLIN COWHERD continues at 12:00 PM ET, featuring Colin Cowherd alongside a new co-host but familiar face, Jason McIntyre. Cowherd, the most interesting voice in sports, applies his unique lens to a variety of topics while featuring interviews with some of the biggest names in the industry. THE HERD remains one of FS1’s most-popular daily studio shows, notching four record-setting months in the past calendar year.

FIRST THINGS FIRST moves to a new studio and a new timeslot at 3:00 PM ET, helmed by Nick Wright, Chris Broussard and Kevin Wildes. The trio offers their take on a bevy of sports stories alongside special guests from across the sports world.

At 4:30 PM ET, the revamped SPEAK takes over the airwaves with Emmanuel Acho, LeSean McCoy and Joy Taylor. Acho, a #1 New York Times Bestselling author and two-time Emmy winner, anchors the show alongside FOX Sports newcomer and former Philadelphia Eagles teammate, McCoy, a two-time Super Bowl Champion and six-time Pro Bowler. They are joined by Taylor, a longtime contributor to FS1’s studio shows and former host of UNDISPUTED and THE HERD, who offers her distinctive opinion from the desk each weekday.

LOS ANGELES – BIG NOON SATURDAY, college football’s most-watched regular season game, is back this fall on FOX with some of the sport’s biggest stars in the booth and on the field. Gus Johnson, Joel Klatt and Jenny Taft return for the sixth consecutive year to call some of college football’s best matchups and most compelling rivalries on FOX.

BIG NOON KICKOFF returns with its original cast, Rob Stone, Brady Quinn, Reggie Bush, Matt Leinart and Urban Meyer, together again on the road this fall. For the first time ever, BIG NOON KICKOFF travels each week of the season, previewing the day’s best matchups from campuses across the nation. A brand-new promo featuring the cast of BIG NOON KICKOFF and the BIG NOON SATURDAY game crew debuts tomorrow, Saturday, Aug. 20, during FOX’s BASEBALL NIGHT IN AMERICA.

Johnson, Klatt and Taft open the season Thursday, Sept. 1 at 8:00 PM ET when Purdue takes on Penn State in West Lafayette, IN. The trio is joined by the BIG NOON KICKOFF cast, with special on-site pregame coverage beginning at 7:00 PM ET.

Week 2 of the college football season is highlighted by the highly anticipated non-conference matchup between No. 1 ranked Alabama and Texas, Saturday, Sept. 10 on FOX. This marks Alabama’s first-ever regular season appearance on the network, and the first meeting between Steve Sarkisian and Nick Saban since Sarkisian left Alabama to lead the Longhorns. BIG NOON KICKOFF begins on-site at 10:00 AM ET with game action kicking off at 12:00 PM ET.

BIG NOON KICKOFF also features regular on-site reports from renowned storyteller and reporter Tom Rinaldi, as well as longtime college football insider Bruce Feldman. Viewers can also expect remote contributions from the biggest games in the south each week from Clay Travis. FOX Sports’ Emmanuel Acho, former University of Washington head coach, Chris Petersen, and host Mike Hill contribute to FOX Sports’ college football studio coverage from Los Angeles.

Newly minted FOX Sports play-by-play announcer Jason Benetti is paired alongside former NFL quarterback and analyst Brock Huard, with reporter Allison Williams joining the crew for select games this season. Benetti and Huard kick off FOX Sports’ 2022 live college football coverage with a special Week 0 matchup from the Emerald Isle, when Nebraska takes on Northwestern from Dublin on Saturday, Aug. 27 at 12:30 PM ET on FOX.

Veteran broadcast partners Tim Brando and Spencer Tillman enter their eighth year together for FOX Sports, and their 24th season together overall, opening the season in Bloomington, IN, with an Illinois-Indiana tilt on Friday, Sept. 2 at 8:00 PM ET on FS1.

On Saturday, Sept. 3, play-by-play announcer Noah Eagle, a new addition to the FOX Sports college football roster, kicks off the action alongside former Oregon head coach and Pac-12 champion Mark Helfrich when South Dakota State takes on Iowa at 12:00 PM ET on FS1.

Play-by-play broadcaster Alex Faust and former USC standout and analyst Petros Papadakis are reunited for their second season together, starting the year on the call for UConn-Utah State on Saturday, Aug. 27 at 4:00 PM ET on FS1.

In addition, former University of Michigan quarterback Devin Gardner and play-by-play broadcaster Eric Collins pair for another season in the booth, beginning Thursday, Sept. 1 with Cal Poly vs. Fresno State at 10:30 PM ET on FS1.

In celebration of reaching the milestone moment, FOX Sports, America’s official English-language broadcaster for the tournament, kick starts the countdown to the opening match on Sunday, Nov. 20 with a host of company-wide, multiplatform initiatives, exciting activations and thoughtful soccer events aimed at stoking enthusiasm nationwide.

FOX Sports Celebrates 100 Days to FIFA World Cup Qatar 2022™ with New Common Goal Partnership and Community Festival

LOS ANGELES – On Tuesday, Aug. 9, FOX Sports teamed with global nonprofit organization Common Goal and current Common Goal professional football club members Angel City FC and Tigres UANL, to celebrate 100 days to the start of the FIFA World Cup Qatar 2022™ with an exciting and impact-driven community event – Common Goal Festival Los Angeles – that welcomed more than 80 local athletes from six sports-based youth development nonprofit organizations.

Common Goal Festival Los Angeles featured youth athletes participating in skills trainings and personal empowerment clinics alongside FOX Soccer broadcasters Alexi Lalas, Stu Holden, Jenny Taft, Maurice Edu and Rodolfo Landeros. Joining them on the pitch and in the fun were Angel City FC’s Stefany Ferrer Van Ginkel alongside Tigres UANL players Anika Rodríguez, Bianca Sierra and Ammanda Marroquin. The event was held at GOALS Soccer Center in South Gate, California and culminated with a thrilling soccer tournament crowning nonprofit participant America SCORES Los Angeles champion.

“Soccer is a sport that brings people together, and this partnership really serves as an example of that,” said Holden. “It brings communities together, it brings groups of friends together and this fall, you can expect to watch the biggest, greatest and best sporting event on the planet when the World Cup begins on FOX.”

FOX Sports’ partnership with Common Goal advances the organization’s mission to use soccer to transform the lives of underserved and underrepresented youth in communities across the country, while utilizing the world’s biggest sporting event to tell the story of soccer for good. The partnership furthers FOX Sports’ efforts through its FOX Sports Supports community impact program to create fighting chances for all athletes to play and access sports. 

“These kind of engagements are so important because they help to move the sport forward and help to create more access, especially for underprivileged kids who might not get those opportunities,” said Edu.

FOX Sports Energized for Its Return To Iowa and MLB at Field of Dreams

LOS ANGELES – The month of August means the corn is at optimum height and the FOX MLB team is set for a return to Dyersville, Iowa for year two of the magical MLB AT FIELD OF DREAMS GAME PRESENTED BY GEICO, with the Chicago Cubs taking on the Cincinnati Reds in a regular-season matchup on Thursday, Aug. 11 at 7:00 PM ET on FOX, FOX Deportes and the FOX Sports app. Last year’s inaugural presentation on FOX won the 2021 Sports Emmy Award for Outstanding Live Special. 

Joe Davis joins first-ballot Hall-of-Famer and Sports Emmy winner John Smoltz in the booth for the return to the site of the beloved Universal Pictures baseball classic, Field of Dreams. Two-time Emmy Award-winning reporter Ken Rosenthal and four-time Emmy Award-winning broadcaster Tom Verducci round out the broadcast crew, providing exclusive inside information and in-game reports.

Host Kevin Burkhardt is joined by World Series champion and Hall-of-Famer David Ortiz and World Series champion Alex Rodriguez on the network’s highly acclaimed pregame show Thursday, Aug. 11, at 6:00 PM ET on FOX.

With shades of Moonlight Graham, Tom Rinaldi, a 17-time Sports Emmy Award winner and seven-time Edward R. Morrow Award winner, is doing a feature on Roy Gleason, the only player in MLB history to have a perfect batting average, Purple Heart and World Series Ring.

FOX and MLB will also pay tribute to Field of Dreams star Ray Liotta, who passed away earlier this year, in a piece voiced by fellow castmate Kevin Costner that will air during the FOX MLB pregame show.

The 2022 “A Dream Fulfilled” youth baseball airs on Wednesday, Aug. 10 at 5:00 PM ET on FS1.

 FOX Deportes offers live, comprehensive coverage of the marquee game, featuring renowned announcer Adrian Garcia-Marquez, veteran baseball reporter Carlos Alvarez and former MLB infielder Edgar Gonzalez. Coverage begins Thursday night with a special edition of FOX DEPORTES EN VIVO at 6:00 PM ET.
