Now Borussia Monchengladbach are even selling 'A German Team' gear

Borussia Moenchengladbach's name is a mouthful. They're aware of that. They also have one of the most creative social media teams in all of soccer. So when a pub in Glasgow decided to poke fun at Gladbach's (see, you can just use a simple abbreviation) name, the club did the smart thing: They fully embraced it.

This bit of banter was spotted on a sandwich board outside of the pub prior to Gladbach's tilt against Celtic at Celtic Park on Oct. 19.

Worth of a chuckle, sure, but Gladbach went all in on the slight. They temporarily changed their Twitter display name to "A German Team." After toppling Celtic to the tune of 2-0, they tweeted a picture of "A German Team heading back to a German city!" It looked like not only had they won the match, but also the war of words with the Celtic faithful.

On Thursday, Gladbach took it a step further. Now you can buy special edition scarves emblazoned with "A German Team."

The club are still at it with a very tongue-in-cheek sales pitch of, "for those who still don't know our name ..."

Profiting off of banter? This has to be a first.
