6 Bearkats in double figures in 94-56 victory
HUNTSVILLE, Texas (AP) — Zach Nutall scored 15 points to lead six Bearkats in double figures and Sam Houston State defeated Southwestern 94-56 on Thursday night.
RJ Smith added 13 points, Chidozie Ndu 12, Albert Almanza made three 3-pointers in scoring 11 points while Cameron Delaney and Marcus Harris had 10 points each. Kai Mitchell led a 57-30 rebounding edge with 10 boards.
The Bearkats (2-0) finished the first half on a 13-5 run to lead 43-23 and led by double figures the rest of the way with an 11-0 run that included two 3-pointers from Smith and five points from Nutall, leaving the Bearkats up 68-35 with 9:26 remaining.
The Bearkats made 14 steals in turning 21 Southwestern turnovers into 26 points. Sam Houston had a 48-16 scoring advantage in the paint.
Andrew Puhl led the Division III Pirates with nine points.
