Air Force downs Johnson & Wales (CO) 90-65
COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. (AP) — Chris Joyce scored 15 points and hit three 3-pointers, Lavelle Scottie added 12 points with seven rebounds and Air Force beat NAIA member Johnson & Wales (CO) 90-65 Tuesday night to win its 12th straight season opener, downing the Wildcats for the fifth straight time.
Sid Tomes scored 11 points with five assists and Ryan Swan added 10 points with eight rebounds for the Falcons, who outrebounded the Wildcats 45-24 and shot 57 percent from the field (35 of 61).
The lead changed hands three times early before Scottie's 3-pointer sparked a 19-6 run capped by Keaton Van Soelen's dunk and the Falcons pulled ahead 50-32 at halftime on another 3 by Scottie.
Swan's layup capped a 12-2 run to open the second half and the Falcons steadily pulled away, finishing with 22 assists and shooting 9 of 16 from long distance (61 percent).
Jontrell Herman scored 25 points with four steals for the Wildcats and Andrew Romero III added 20 points.
