Alabama Basketball Falls To Arkansas 87-68

Updated Mar. 4, 2020 7:43 p.m. ET

Alabama Basketball was blown out on the road by Arkansas. The Tide drops to 13-8 and 6-3 in SEC play.

How bad was it Wednesday night for Alabama Basketball in Bud Walton Arena? The Crimson Tide lost by 19 points. It did not seem that close.

Winning at Arkansas is a rarity for Alabama. The Tide has lost nine of its last ten on the Arkansas home court.

How bad was it? It reminded of a game a long time ago when Skip Caray was announcing for the Atlanta Hawks.  The Hawks were losing badly early in the 4th quarter of a game where their play had been abysmal. Right after the start of the final quarter, Caray said to the viewing audience, “I tell you what, if you will promise to do business with all of our fine sponsors, you have my permission to go walk the dog.”

That Hawks performance was simply too dreadful to watch. Was Alabama that bad against Arkansas? Consider this, Arkansas went over eight minutes in the first half without making a basket. At halftime, the Razorbacks led the Tide by eight. It went downhill from there.

The Razorbacks pressured the Tide into 18 turnovers for the game and converted those TO’s into 28 points. Arkansas shot 48% from outside the arc, hitting 11 long bombers. Alabama was a very good 20-25 at the foul line and still lost by 19 points.

For more than 30 minutes Alabama battled with determination. Eventually, inexorably Arkansas wore down the Tide. How bad was it? I thought about going to my next door neighbor and asking if I could walk their dog.

An opportunity for redemption comes Saturday when the Pearlster brings his Tigers to Tuscaloosa. I am confident the Tide will bounce back strongly and dog-walking will not be necessary.

The is future is bright for Alabama Basketball. Help is on the way. Avery is building something special.
