Albany uses balanced attack to beat Stony Brook 57-50 (Jan 27, 2018)
STONY BROOK, N.Y. (AP) David Nichols scored all 14 of his points in the second half, and Albany held Stony Brook to just 18 second-half points for a 57-50 victory on Saturday night.
Joe Cremo and Travis Charles also had 14 points for Albany (17-7, 5-4 America East Conference).
Tyrell Sturdivant had 12 points to lead Stony Brook (8-14, 3-5).
The Great Danes led 53-50 when Sturdivant's 3-point attempt hit the front of the rim with 31 seconds remaining, and then Nichols made a pair of free throws. UC Iroegbu missed a 3-pointer with 16 seconds left, and Cremo scored a layup off a fast break for his first points of the second half to seal it.
Nichols scored eight straight points on a pair of 3s and a layup to give the Great Danes a 41-38 advantage, and he stretched it to 45-40 with a jumper and two free throws.
The Seawolves regained the lead, 50-49, but Greig Stire made a layup and Charles hit a pair of free throws that gave Albany a 53-50 lead with 2:07 remaining.
