Amius, Parks lead Western Carolina past App State, 72-71 (Dec 04, 2017)

CULLOWHEE, N.C. (AP) Mike Amius had 19 points, including the go-ahead dunk with 7.4 seconds left and Deriece Parks scored a career-high 20 points to help Western Carolina beat Appalachian State 72-71 on Monday night.

Amius was 8-of-13 shooting and grabbed seven rebounds, while Parks hit a career-best six 3-pointers on eight attempts. Matt Halvorsen scored 14, going 8 of 8 from the free-throw line.

Halvorsen hit a 3-pointer to give the Catamounts a 70-62 lead with four minutes left, but Appalachian State used a 9-0 run, while Western Carolina (3-6) committed three turnovers and went 0 for 3 from the field, to take a one-point lead on Craig Hinton's putback with 1:39 left. Neither team scored until Amius spun his defender in the lane for a two-handed dunk and Ronshad Shabazz missed a layup at the other end with two seconds to go.

Justin Forrest hit 5 of 9 from 3-point range and finished with 18 for Appalachian State (5-5) and Shabazz scored 16.
