TEMPE, Ariz. (AP) — Arizona State and basketball coach Bobby Hurley are working on a contract extension to keep him in the desert.

Hurley made the announcement on Twitter Thursday, thanking school President Michael Crow and athletic director Ray Anderson for entrusting him to lead the program.

Hurley, the former Duke star from New Jersey, had been rumored to top St. John's wish list after coach Chris Mullin stepped down.

A new deal with will entrench Hurley in Tempe, where he has guided the Sun Devils to the NCAA Tournament the past two seasons. Arizona State beat St. John's in the First Four before losing to Buffalo in this year's tournament.
