Arkansas vs Houston Will be Home Test for Hogs

Published Jun. 30, 2017 6:28 p.m. ET

Tonight’s matchup with Arkansas and Houston will be the toughest opponent to come to Bud Walton thus far.

The two former Southwest Conference teams meetings have been dominated by Arkansas overall. The Razorbacks lead the all-time meetings 21-17 with 13-2 in Fayetteville and have won 7 of the last 8 games. As much success as Arkansas has had, this is a new year and a new challenge for the Hogs to overcome.

Houston holds the same record on the season as Arkansas with 6-1 with their only loss coming on the road at LSU. Currently, the Cougars are first in the American Athletic Conference. Mike Anderson, head coach of the Razorbacks, recognized the threat Houston poses. Today in his pregame press conference he said the Cougars are as good or maybe better than Minnesota.

If you like fast paced high scoring games, then this one is gonna be for you. Houston leads the nation in 3-point shooting and scores 85 points per game. Arkansas is going to have to find a way to defend the perimeter and throw the Cougars off their game. Leading the Cougars offensively is Rob Gray who averages 19.4 points per game. Damyean Dotson, Wes VanBeck, and Armoni Brooks are all shooting better than .500 from beyond the arc which will spread the perimeter defense out for the Hogs.

Arkansas is going to have play like they did last game against Austin Peay. The bench must be highly productive, they will have to apply pressure defensively and most of all, they need high scoring efficiency. All of which they have shown can be done.

Tipoff is at 6:00 p.m. at Bud Walton Arena. The game will be on regular television, airing on the SEC Network. If you can’t get to a T.V., you can stream the game on WatchESPN here. Let’s create that hostile environment Arkansas fans are known for. Woo pig!
