WASHINGTON (AP) Matthew Wilson scored 16 and Army overcame 25 turnovers to beat American 58-54 on Monday night.
John Emezie's 3-pointer pulled Army within 54-53 with 5:33 left and then, after a scoreless 3 1/2 minutes, Babacar Thiombane's jumper gave Army the lead with the final field goal of the game. The Black Knights (9-6, 2-2 Patriot League) added 3 of 4 free throws in the final 16 seconds to cap the scoring.
Sa'eed Nelson had 15 points and Larry Motuzis added 13 for the Eagles (3-12, 0-4), who missed their final eight field-goal attempts and went scoreless over the final six-plus minutes.
American had a 10-2 run to close the first half and continued with a 5-0 start to the second to build the largest lead of the game at 35-25. Army answered with a 12-1 run to erase that deficit and it was closely contested the rest of the way.
