Better scores 20 in Southern Utah's 77-74 victory (Feb 24, 2018)

CEDAR CITY, Utah (AP) Brandon Better made three 3-pointers and scored 20 points and Southern Utah defeated Sacramento State 77-74 on Saturday.

Dwayne Morgan and Jamal Aytes added 13 points each and Christian Musoko 10 for the Thunderbirds (11-16, 5-11 Big Sky), who snapped a three-game losing streak.

The Hornets used a 24-8 run to take 66-63 lead with four minutes left. The game was tied at 71 with 1:28 to go but Morgan made two free throws and Dre Marin added his only points on a layup with 17 seconds left. Jordan Tolbert responded with a quick 3-pointer but Better added two more free throws and a 3-point try by Justin Strings missed.

Southern Utah led by four points at halftime then opened the second half outscoring Sacramento State 17-8, including seven points from Better.

Strings scored 17 points and Tolbert 16 for the Hornets (6-23, 3-13), who have lost eight straight.
