Bettor who put $100 on Syracuse to win NCAA title could win $100k
The Syracuse Orange limped into the NCAA tournament winning just one of their final six games of the season, and even the most diehard Syracuse fans likely didn't believe the team could pull off a stunning run to the Final Four. Prior to the tournament, the Orange were huge longshots to win the title at Las Vegas sportsbooks, and in January Westgate SuperBook listed Syracuse at 1,000-to-1 to win the national championship.
One very, very brave bettor placed a $100 bet on Syracuse to win the title, and is now just two games away from a colossal payday according to ESPN.
"Jay Kornegay, vice president of race and sports at the Westgate and a 20-plus-year Vegas veteran, said he could not recall a 1,000-1 bet ever cashing. Auburn was 1,000-1 during the 2012-2013 college football season and reached the championship game before falling to Florida State."
Should the Orange win the title, the bettor would win $100,100.
