Blue Devils Rout Virginia to Earn 20th Win
Duke Women’s Basketball earned their 20th win of the season and hold on to 3rd place in the ACC after a dominating road win over Virginia.
The No. 15 Blue Devils dominated in a 70-51 win over Virginia to earn their 20th win of the NCAA season. Duke got off to a slow start at the beginning of the game, but used a huge run to pull away early from the Cavaliers.
After trailing by as many as 8 in the first quarter, Duke picked up the intensity on both sides of the ball to blow out Virginia on the road. The Blue Devils’ defense was excellent holding the Cavaliers to only 36.4% shooting and scoring 26 points off of 17 turnovers. They held Virginia to only 6 points total in the third quarter en route to the huge victory. Duke also allowed only one Cavalier to score in double figures with guard Dominique Toussaint scoring 10.
Duke Women’s Basketball was led by their dynamic guard duo of Rebecca Greenwell and Lexie Brown. Greenwell finished with 21 and 6 rebounds while Brown added 17 for the Blue Devils. Duke also dominated in the paint where they outscored UVA 30-12.
The Blue Devils are now 20-4 overall and 8-3 in the ACC after the convincing win over Virginia. Duke Women’s Basketball is having a great season after last year’s issues, where they finished 20-12 overall and missed the NCAA Tournament.
The Blue Devils will be back in action with a huge Friday night game against No. 24 Syracuse. The Orange will head to Cameron Indoor Stadium looking to knock off the Blue Devils to move ahead in the ACC standings.
