Broman, Pickett spark turnaround, Winthrop tops Prairie View

ROCK HILL, S.C. (AP) — Adam Pickett scored all but one of his 15 points in the second half when Winthrop came from behind to defeat Prairie View A&M 76-62 on Saturday, pushing its win streak to four.

Pickett opened the second half with a 3-point play that boosted the Eagles (8-4) into a 35-34 lead and ignited a 17-3 run. Bjorn Broman led with 17 points, and a perfect 7 of 7 at the foul line, Kyle Zunic added 12 points with nine rebounds. Pickett, Broman and Zunic scored the first eight points after halftime and Winthrop capped the turnaround rally with three straight 3-pointers by Josh Ferguson, Austin Awad and Raivis Scerbinskis.

Darius Williams scored 15 points and Gary Blackston 14 for Prairie View, which has lost 11 straight. The Panthers (1-11) have played all 12 games on the road.

Winthrop shot 61.5 percent from the floor in the second half, 57 percent for the game, and was 9 of 19 from 3-point distance. The hot shooting helped the Eagles survive 27 turnovers, nearly twice their average.
