Buddy Hield spent his senior year at OU sharing a bed with his mom
Most college students don't want to have their parents around. Oklahoma senior Buddy Hield does not follow that trend, however. Instead, his mother doubles as his roommate at school.
According to a report from the Houston Chronicle, Hield's mother, Jackie Swann, moved from their home in the Bahamas to Hield's college bedroom in Oklahoma in January to help him handle the stress of life as a Division 1 basketball player. Hield told the paper that his mom helps him relax and and stay focused. But their sleeping arrangements are pretty unique.
Via the Houston Chronicle:
"My mom, she sleeps in my bed," Hield told reporters. "Sometimes I sleep with her and sometimes I don't. I sleep on the couch or on the floor."
Hield told the Chronicle that it is not unheard of for family members to share beds back home in the Bahamas, so sharing one with his mother is not a big deal to him. The star Sooner also does not hide the fact that he's a "mama's boy." His Instagram is littered with photos of him with his mother.
It looks like Mrs. Swann is adjusting to the Oklahoma chill the way any true Bahamian would.
But it must be worth it to bundle up when Swann gets to see Hield excel live on the court. The Sooners star averaged 25 points per game this season, good for second in the nation, and he led his team to a spot in the Final Four, where Oklahoma will tip off against Villanova on Saturday night.
