Burns scores 30 as Colgate cruises past Monmouth 87-74
HAMILTON, N.Y. (AP) — Jordan Burns poured in 30 points, knocking down 5 of 10 shots from 3-point range, and Colgate picked up its first victory of the year with an 87-74 win over Monmouth on Friday night.
Rapolas Ivanauskas finished with 22 points and 10 rebounds to post his second double-double in as many games for the Raiders (1-1). Colgate nearly shot better from outside the 3-point arc than inside it against the Hawks. The Raiders connected at a 46-percent clip from the floor overall but sank 13 of 29 from distance (45 percent). Will Rayman scored 15 and Burns added six assists and five rebounds.
Ray Salnave topped the Hawks (0-2) with 16 points, while Deion Hammond and Louie Pillari scored 14 and 10, respectively. Monmouth shot 39 percent from the floor (22 of 57), but just 33 percent (6 of 18) from distance.
Colgate had a 39-32 advantage on the boards for the game and outscored the Hawks 53-39 in the second half.
