Cal Poly overtakes Long Beach State 96-92 in double OT

SAN LUIS OBISPO, Calif. (AP) Brian Bennett scored 21 points, including the go-ahead free throw, to lift Cal Poly to a 96-92 double overtime win over Long Beach State on Saturday night.

Bennett was fouled on a hook shot that tied the score at 91 with 1:45 left in the second OT period and sank the free throw to give Cal Poly (7-9, 1-2 Big West) its first lead since the game's opening bucket. Joel Awich hit a jumper to extend the advantage and Reese Morgan sank a pair of free throws with 17 seconds left while Long Beach State went 1 for 2 from the line and missed two 3-pointers.

Morgan forced overtime with a 3-pointer to tie it at 80 at the end of regulation. Awich forced the second OT period with a 3-pointer to tie it at 88. Reese and Josh Martin finished with 14 points, while Awich had 12.

Justin Bibbins led Long Beach State (8-11, 2-2) with 21 points.
