BERKELEY, Calif. (AP) California senior point guard and leading scorer Tyrone Wallace will be sidelined for four to six weeks with a broken bone in his right hand.

Cal made the announcement Tuesday, a big blow for coach Cuonzo Martin's team that had high hopes of challenging for the Pac-12 title this season. Wallace returned for his senior season in Berkeley rather than entering the NBA draft. He is averaging 15.4 points and 5.1 rebounds while starting the first 18 games for the Golden Bears.

Cal is 12-6 overall and 2-3 in Pac-12 play, having lost three straight heading into Thursday night's home game against Arizona State. The Bears are unbeaten at Haas Pavilion.

Martin said junior Sam Singer will be called upon to help fill the void left by Wallace's absence.
