Carrington’s 25 helps Seton Hall hold off Providence 89-77

Updated Mar. 5, 2020 12:59 a.m. ET

PROVIDENCE, R.I. (AP) Khadeen Carrington had 25 points and Seton Hall held off Providence College 89-77 on Thursday in a game suspended because of a slippery floor.

Referees halted play at the Dunkin' Donuts Center, which doubles as an ice hockey rink, because of unsafe conditions with 13:03 left in the second half on Wednesday night. The game resumed Thursday at Alumni Hall on the Providence campus with Seton Hall leading 56-47.

Myles Powell added 20 points for the Pirates (19-9, 8-7 Big East), who have won two straight and swept the season series with the Friars.

Kyron Cartwright led the Friars (17-11, 8-7) with 25 points and six assists. Providence got as close as 59-58, but Seton Hall responded with a 12-3 run.

Providence hit 11 3-pointers, but had 12 turnovers and shot just 44 percent (8 of 18) from the free-throw line.

The Friars have lost two straight since beating No. 3 Villanova last week.

An official with the Dunkin' Donuts Center on Thursday offered an apology for the moisture on the court. James P. McCarvill, executive director of the Rhode Island Convention Center, which manages The Dunk, said they met with building management and mechanical engineers to discuss plans to improve court conditions and prevent it from happening again.

He said they are taking steps to address the problem, including installing a fully-automated energy management system in the coming months.

McCarvill said he's confident The Dunk will be ready for the next home game on March 3.
