Carter, McCaw help UNLV top UC Riverside 73-62

RIVERSIDE, Calif. (AP) Ben Carter scored 15 points, Patrick McCaw had 14 to go with eight rebounds and a career-high seven steals, and UNLV survived a late charge from UC Riverside to hold on for a 73-62 win on Saturday night.

Leading 40-26 at the half, UNLV (8-2) built its lead to as many as 18 points and led 51-34 with 15:49 left to play. But Taylor Johns and Jaylen Bland combined for 13 points of a 15-1 run to pull UC Riverside (5-4) within three.

McCaw responded with a layup, jumper and 3-pointer to push the Runnin' Rebels in front by seven, and UNLV made 7 of 7 free throws in the final minute to seal it.

UC Riverside outrebounded UNLV 52-36 but lost the turnover battle 22-11. The Rebels turned 22 turnovers into 23 points to win their fifth in six games.
