CCSU finishes strong to get 3rd straight win 72-63 (Jan 20, 2018)
NEW BRITAIN, Conn. (AP) Austin Nehls drilled a trey to give Central Connecticut State the lead for good and the Huskies held off LIU Brooklyn 72-63 to win its third straight and even its Northeast Conference standings on Saturday afternoon.
The Blackbirds held a 31-29 halftime advantage. Nehls and Joe Hugley hit back-to-back 3s for a 37-36 lead with 16:54 left before Julius van Sauers answered with a 3-pointer to retake the advantage.
The teams swapped the lead until Nehls hit his second from distance to go up 50-49 with 7:09 left. Tyler Kohl scored the next eight points and Eric Bowles nailed a 3-pointer for a 61-56 lead with 1:47 left. CCSU scored seven unanswered points to go ahead 67-56 with 39 seconds remaining.
Kohl led CCSU (11-10, 4-4) with 20 points, six rebounds and four assists. Nehls had 15 points with Hugley adding eight while grabbing 10 rebounds.
Jashaun Agosto had 22 points to lead LIU Brooklyn (9-12, 4-4).
