Cheatham's big day leads Marquette past Jackson State 80-61

MILWAUKEE (AP) Haanif Cheatham scored 24 points, Duane Wilson added 16 and Henry Ellenson 15 with 10 rebounds and Marquette cruised to an 80-61 win over Jackson State on Sunday.

Behind Cheatham, a freshman who had a career day, the Golden Eagles (4-2) shot 59 percent in the second half while making 6 of 11 3-pointers.

Cheatham made four of Marquette's nine 3-pointers and hit all six of his free throws. Luke Fischer had 11 points and six blocks.

Marquette led 38-28 at the half and pushed the lead to 26 points midway through the second half. Ellenson made 7 of 11 from the field and Cheatham was 7 of 12.

Raeford Worsham had 21 points and 13 rebounds for the Tigers (2-5), who shot 36 percent. Only one player hit half of his shots.

The Golden Eagles had 23 assists on its 30 baskets with Traci Carter contributing six.
