Clemson basketball adds its third recruit to the 2017 class in athletic big man Aamir Simms.

Head coach Brad Brownell is building one of the best recruiting classes he’s ever had at Clemson.

4-star power forward Aamir Simms, out of Blue Ridge High School, committed to Clemson on Thursday. The Virginia native is ranked as the 119th prospect on 247sports.

Simms joins two other 4-star recruits, shooting guard A.J. Oliver and power forward Malik William, in the Tigers’ 2017 class. William has the likelihood of making the shift over to small forward, giving Simms more time at power forward position.

Simms is the second player out of Blue Ridge High School in two years to commit to Clemson. Guard Scott Spencer was added to the Tigers’ roster last year.

Simms’ impressive list of finalists included Clemson, Iowa State, Miami, Notre Dame, Pittsburgh and VCU. 247sports’ Crystal Ball prediction had Sims as a potential VCU commit, but at the end of the day the Tigers won out.

As a high school junior, Simms averaged 13.4 points, 8.8 rebounds, 2.0 blocks, and 1.8 assists per game. These numbers attest to his ability to doing everything. He can be a rim protector while also crashing the glass and finding the open man for a shot.

The big man is praised for his footwork and motor. Most post players just use their strength and size to try and overpower defenders, but Simms uses his crafty footwork and length to score at the basket.

He’s a great athlete as he’s able to run up and down the court. His conditioning level is up to par for the college game. Simms also has the ability to step out and make a mid-range jumper or get deep in the post and put up a sky hook over a taller defender.

The Tigers will watch Jaron Blossomgame and Donte Grantham graduate after this year is over, so adding Simms will be crucial for future success. Nice work, Brad.
