Columbia topples Div. III Kean 107-62 in hoops opener

NEW YORK (AP) Freshman C.J. Davis scored 19 points to lead Columbia to a 107-62 rout of Division III Kean on Friday in their college basketball opener.

Davis made 5 of 6 3-pointers and Nate Hickman added 15 points. Maodo Lo scored 13, Grant Mullins had 11 and Alex Rosenberg added 10 points and 10 rebounds in the first game between the schools.

Tim Bradley scored 12 points and Tommy Soulias 11 for Kean, which trailed 48-29 at the half.

Columbia made 28 of 29 free throws, hit 16 3-pointers and grabbed 60 rebounds - the most since hauling in 50 against Swarthmore on Nov. 28, 2011. The Lions, who shot 48 percent from the field, improved to 83-32 all-time in home openers.

This game was one of two that began at 11 a.m. EST to start the college basketball season. The other was Vermont at Eastern Michigan.
