Defense leads Florida Gulf Coast to 82-53 win over Stetson

FORT MYERS, Fla. (AP) Zach Johnson scored 17 points, Marc Eddy Norelia had 16, and Florida Gulf Coast held Stetson to 33 percent shooting in an 82-53 win over Stetson on Saturday.

Stetson shot just 6 of 28 (21.4 percent) from the field before the break as Florida Gulf Coast (10-7, 1-0 Atlantic Sun) built a 27-point halftime lead.

The Eagles made 20 of 28 first-half shots and finished at 59 percent.

Johnson and Norelia combined to make 14 of 21 attempts, including a 10-of-12 first half.

Derick Newton and Divine Myles both had 11 points for Stetson (6-11, 0-2), which lost its seventh straight to the Eagles and started 0-2 in conference play for the second straight year.

Florida Gulf Coast entered leading the conference in points allowed at 70.3 per game and scored at least 80 points for the eighth time this season after reaching that mark just five times last season.
